MN: Kjaer wants to end career at Milan but renewal remains uncertain

By Ben Dixon -

Since arriving in 2020, Simon Kjaer has been a reliable figure in AC Milan’s defence when called upon. However, with the Dane’s injury history and problems this season, it remains to be seen if the Rossoneri will offer him a new contract in the summer.

We have entered the final few months of Kjaer’s contract, and Milan have to decide if he has a future at the club. This season alone, he has missed 10 games due to muscle fatigue, and at 34 years old, this is not a problem which will slow down.

As a result, there is a lot to be weighed up, as reported by MilanNews. The Dane will finish the 2023-24 season as a 35-year-old, and with such, there is a worry that his performances may not be at the same level as when he originally signed. However, with age comes experience, and in a relatively youthful Rossoneri dressing room, there is a need for an older and wiser head.

A few months ago, the central defender was interviewed and asked about whether he could stay at the club beyond the expiry of his contract.

“Staying beyond 2024 in Rossoneri? Yes, I hope so. There are two parties, a coach and many things that come into play. But I will definitely play my part.

“This is where I want to finish [my career]. It’s the club I’ve always dreamed of finishing at. So I also hope to finish here, but not anytime soon.”

  1. Renew him. He is quality. He is a leader for the defense and he tells the younger players what to do and how to position themselves. We generally do better when he plays. Just this past Sassuolo game, I thought he was one of our 3 best players together with Bennacer and Pulisic. When he is fit, he’s an asset. Yes, he’ll miss games, but he’ll contribute when he will be able to play.
