MN: Leao seizing his moment after the message from Pioli on what he expects

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan forward Rafael Leao has enjoyed a run of games due to Ante Rebic’s injury, and he continues to give head coach Stefano Pioli a selection dilemma for when the Croatian returns.

Leao started on the left wing in Monday night’s 3-3 draw against Roma and provided two excellent assists for Milan’s first two goals of the night, terrorising the opposing defence at times.

As MilanNews notes, the result is not what he wanted after taking the lead three times, but Pioli can be happy after another excellent performance by Leao.

He took several players on a walk for the second goal as he strolled past them to the byline before cutting back to Saelemaekers, and he received compliments from Pioli in the post-match press conference.

“During the week I spoke quite clearly to Rafa about what I expect from him, I am very happy with his performance. He must insist in this way, he is a very young and strong player,” he said.

The 21-year-old cannot just be satisfied with what he has done in the last two league matches, and he will have to continue showing positive signs if he is to keep his spot when Rebic returns.

In his first season with the Rossoneri, Leao was guilty of following up a bright performance with one where he barely touched the ball, yet things this time around seem like they could be different.
