MN: Lille appeal Leao’s €20m sentence at the Swiss federal court – the situation

The saga involved Rafael Leao and his former club Sporting CP is far from over as the compensation ruling has been appealed by Lille, a report claims.

MilanNews writes how it had ‘aroused suspicion’ that the Court of Arbitration for Sport had not yet published on its official website the ruling that condemned Lille and Leao to the joint payment of compensation around €20m (including interest) after the winger terminated his deal with the Portuguese club in 2019.

The source backs up the findings of the lawyer Felice Raimondo, confirming that the sentence of the TAS was challenged by Lille at the Swiss Federal Court, so the procedure has thus passed into the realm of being a civil case rather than a sporting one.

That means that at the moment, the compensation payments to Sporting CP are to be considered frozen and thus for the time being Leao will not suffer any financial penalty until the ruling is upheld, if it is.
