MN: Milan could be without nine key players for first game of 2023

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan are likely to resume their Serie A campaign against Salernitana on January 4 with an injury crisis to content with again, a report claims.

MilanNews report that Milan will face Salernitana definitely without Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who is continuing his recovery programme as planned, while Alessandro Florenzi got back on the field for a few jogs in Dubai but also will not be ready yet.

What worries the fans most, however, is the situation related to Mike Maignan. The Milan goalkeeper has not yet recovered from the calf problem that has kept him off the pitch since mid-September and will undergo further tests in the next few hours, so he could miss the trip to Salerno.

The same goes for Divock Origi, who instead felt a problem with his flexor and will need a scan too, and finally Junior Messias was not seen on the field for either game against Arsenal or Liverpool suggesting he is not in great condition either.

Among Milan’s other long-term injured players are Davide Calabria and Brahim Diaz who are in doubt for the match in Salerno, but Alexis Saelemaekers seems to have recovered and is a big boost for the right wing.

Finally, Olivier Giroud will return to Milan on either December 29 or 30 and it is very unlikely that he will be available for all 90 minutes in Campania, while the same goes for Theo Hernandez after the duo made it to the World Cup final. Rafael Leao on the other hand will most likely be available.
