MN: Milan emerge from Austria with positives but must also not be satisfied

By Oliver Fisher -

It is a morning of reflection after AC Milan drew 1-1 with Red Bull Salzburg in the first match of their Champions League group stage campaign.

MilanNews writes how the other result in the group perhaps puts things into perspective as Chelsea sensationally lost 1-0 at Dinamo Zagreb and have now sacked head coach Thomas Tuchel off the back of it, showing that there is truly no easy game in the Champions League.

The 1-1 draw at Red Bull Arena is a good result for Milan as Pioli’s side faced an opponent who had not lost at home in 35 games prior and who – in last season’s round of 16 – also stopped Bayern Munich through the same methods seen last night: speed, intensity and quality.

Milan meanwhile seemed a bit jaded from Saturday’s derby win over Inter in which they had to be 100% switched on for all 98 minutes, so the Rossoneri’s performance was not at the usual level.

The consequence is a point which is certainly positive in terms of qualification, but the bar of ambitions must also be raised because the players are capable of more, starting next midweek when early group leaders Zagreb come to San Siro.
