MN: Milan watched Empoli defender closely during 3-0 win – the situation

AC Milan could reinforce the team with a left-back in January and one of their targets played against them yesterday: Giuseppe Pezzella. Indeed, the management got a close look at the Italian international.

Theo Hernandez has been working overtime in the last few seasons, with Milan lacking a proper deputy, and the negative effects of this have been obvious. As such, the Rossoneri could bring in a left-back in January, provided there is a good deal to make.

According to MilanNews, the management kept a close eye on Empoli’s Pezzella in the 3-0 win last night. It perhaps wasn’t the 27-year-old best display, but being Italian and reliable on the left-hand side, he fits the profile rather perfectly.

Milan have been linked with the player for several years as they tried to sign him from Parma in 2021, when he ended up joining Atalanta. Pezzella has started all games but two this season and would most likely be relatively cheap, around €5-10m.

In our recent bonus on Substack, we discussed the January window and how Milan can free up some funds on the accounts to sign a midfielder and a left-back.

  1. the only adequate winter mercato would be:

Parisi and Fagioli (they are 8-9M and 25M using Kalulu and Adli deals we can get them for minimal fee)

get Frendrup as Fofana sub and since Genoa have financial crisis would be less than what we get from RLC sale to some random EPL team

what will actually happen – Pezzella, 2 highschool kids and Cardinale will never $hut up how he’s a GOAT…

  2. Not saying it should be this winter but what Milan should do at CB is sign the next Scalvini before he is priced out of Milan’s range.

The boy’s name is Giovanni Leoni. He made his debut at 17 for Parma against Venezia a few weeks ago and he was extremely impressive, both physically and technically and tactically. He smashed Pohjanpalo who is a pretty decent player and a powerful 30yo athlete.

Leoni was a starting play at Sampdoria in the Serie B at 16 and has continued to rise to the occasion.

    1. Scalvini as replacement for Tomori. We have 3 old school CBs and 1 in build-up. Pavlovic and Gabbia are mostly used anyway, while for build up we have only Thiaw.

Makes sense to sell Tomori to Man Untd or some other top team and use that 40-50M to reinvest in Scalvini.
