MN: Milan equal worrying Pioli-era streak with loss against Inter

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan have not had a pleasant start to 2023 as they have won just one of their opening five games to begin the new year.

As MilanNews recall, Milan’s last win was back in the first game of 2023 when the Rossoneri won 2-1 away against Salernitana on 4 January after dominating the match and conceding only one shot on goal.

Since then, Pioli’s team have not won a game with the run consisting of a draw against Roma, a defeat against Torino in the Coppa Italia, a draw against Lecce and a defeat against Inter in the Supercoppa Italiana.

By going four games without a win, the Rossoneri have in fact equaled a negative record. In the time since Pioli took charge, Milan have only gone four matches without a win once before and that came back 2021, with two draws and two defeats across Serie A and the Europa League in February.

  1. Well this is not so bad. If they continue losing, Ac will lost spot for Champions league qualification. Losing spot equals Losing money, it could be 40 or 60 million at least for next year. 😉 That’s why you can’t lose competitiveness in football. No mention about fans. Maldini was wrong about today Milan competitiveness

  2. Maybe Atalanta will trash us 5-0 again and the new coming will start from there? Naah, not going to happen. That new coming that is.

    1. Milan’s ‘new coming’ in 2020 happened because of the 4,5 months covid stoppage, not because of Atalanta’s trashing.
If it wasn’t for that stoppage, pioli, Maldini Massara would have all been gone along with 90% of the players.

        1. The trashing happened in late December of 2019. Boban was already deep in negotiations with Zlatan to come back to Milan.
Zlatan options were Milan, Napoli, and Bologna.
He said he was thinking about going to Napoli because of Ancelotti, but Carlo got fired in the meantime, and Bologna was too small of a club for him.
He was coming to Milan with or without the Atalanta trashing.
That stoppage of 4.5 months was the most important because it gave Pioli time to implement the new 4231 system and literally save everybody’s jobs. Without that stoppage, Milan would have looked a lot different today. Gazidis was already talking with Ragnick to take over as a sporting director and hire De Zerbi as his coach.

          1. And Z has said that after Milan lost 5-0 to Atalanta, he and Raiola had a discussion where they both agreed that “Milan needs him” and he signed for Milan. Yes, I know the story.

          2. They were already NEGOTIATING.
That’s just as always Zlatan’s ego talking, making himself the savior. He was already deep in negotiations, and it wasn’t like he had a lot of teams chasing him at age 38.
I’m don’t try to undervalue his importance for the change of the clubs mentality, but if we didn’t have that long stoppage, none of that would have happened .
