MN: Milan may need FIGC and/or UEFA to save Champions League dream

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan are now likely to miss out on the top four after yet another damaging defeat, this time at the hands of Spezia, but they might yet still get in the Champions League.

Pietro Mazzara writes in his column for MilanNews that in addition to having to amassed nine points in the next three games to close out the Serie A season, Milan must hope that Roma drop points so they are not overtaken by the Giallorossi.

Then, there is also the hope that the new punishment imposed on Juventus in the capital gains case will kicked the Bianconeri out of European competitions, and if the FIGC don’t do it then UEFA will, or at least ‘that’s what they say’.

The 29 points dropped against teams currently sat between 8th in the table and 20th are an enormity that cannot and must not go unnoticed when a line is drawn on the 2022-23 season.

  1. 29 points dropped to teams 8-20. It’s unbelievable. That statistic alone should get any manager fired.

  2. We should be ashamed if we’re relying for these kind of ‘intervention’ to get into CL.

Our form doesn’t warrant it. We reaped what we sow, I’d love to be part of CL of course, but I’d prefer to qualify through the field, not papers.

I don’t mind being out of CL for a season, so these lads could really savor what they’ve done all season and hopefully could serve as an excellent reminder so that they won’t collapse halfway in the season ever again.

As for the economic repercussions of missing the CL? That ain’t our business, maybe it would also be good, as we can just fully immerse ourselves in enjoying the season without getting linked repeatedly to anyone slightly affordable or unneeeded from other clubs.

Though that’d be quite an ask indeed.

  3. Milan losing to small frys is not new. Too many players go to 😴 in these minor games. Diaz is one of them. He will spring up in bigger games but ghost in smaller ones.

  4. If UEFA are the ones to ban Juventus, it’s not necessarily the 5th place team in Italy that get their spot. It’s decided across all qualifying leagues. So let’s hope it’s decided domestically.
