MN: Milan left sweating over fitness of defender after injury against SPAL

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan are sweating over the fitness of centre-back Mateo Musacchio after he was withdrawn against SPAL, a report claims.

The Argentine started alongside captain Alessio Romagnoli at the heart of defence with Leo Duarte at right-back, but at half-time Musacchio was brought off in place of Davide Calabria, with Duarte shifting inside.

Many thought it was a tactical change from head coach Stefano Pioli given how shaky Milan and uncomfortable on the ball Milan had looked in the opening 45 minutes.

However, according to MilanNews.it, Musacchio was actually withdrawn due to discomfort in his adductor muscle.

As a result, the 29-year-old will undergo medical tests to understand the extent of the injury and whether he will be available at all for Sunday’s crucial game at home against Lazio.

It may be that Pioli chooses to stick with the back four that started the second half on Thursday night anyway, given the improvement in performance after the substitution.
