MN: Milan opt for continuity with their leader Ibrahimovic – ‘The exception to all the rules’

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan are set to continue with Zlatan Ibrahimovic for another season and soon the official announcement will arrive, a report claims.

MilanNews writes that the announcement of Ibrahimovic’s renewal is imminent. Milan want to secure their return to the Champions League with a top four finish and move forward into next season, and they will do so by keeping their champion, the man who in a year and a half changed the present and future of the club.

Back in January 2020 the situation was different: Milan’s season had been branded already over in October, Pioli was a simple interim head coach and director duo Boban and Maldini were battling with CEO Ivan Gazidis over the vision moving forward.

Zlatan took care of defusing the situation both on the pitch and proved that in his late 30s he can still be decisive in one of the ‘top five’ European leagues, and he elevated everyone around him too.

Everyone remembers his bold statement towards the back end of last season: “If I had been there from the start we would have fought for the Scudetto.” Fast forward to this season, and Milan have been at the top of the table for 21 rounds of the season, albeit having regressed a bit in 2021 due to injuries and fatigue.

The serene environment, the unity and the work of the coach and club is refreshing, and that is why it is right to opt for some continuity with Ibra at the forefront again. CEO Ivan Gazidis a few months ago defined Zlatan as ‘the exception to all the rules’ – a testament to his hunger, professionalism and incredible mental strength.
