MN: Milan’s dream remains Milenkovic but other profiles are studied – the preferred identikit

By Oliver Fisher -

Despite all the rumours about wingers, back-up strikers and full-backs, it is in fact the centre-back department that Milan want to reinforce next.

According to Anto Vitiello’s latest for MilanNews, he role that the management wants to improve is at the heart of the defence. The paradox is that the Rossoneri numerically have no less than five central defenders under contract in Romagnoli, Kjaer, Gabbia, Duarte and Musacchio.

However, two are currently injured, Duarte has not impressed in terms of quality or fitness and Gabbia risks being a big gamble in some crucial matches due to inexperience.

Therefore, for a truly competitive Milan that can fight for the Champions League, a significant signing would be needed; a player that would make the entire department make a leap in quality.

The management’s dream is Nikola Milenkovic but dealing with Fiorentina is not easy. The economic demands are excessive and La Viola hope to keep him, so it could be a track that would be unlocked in the last hours of the market if the player continues to insist on leaving.

Milan know that Milenkovic is really complicated so they are attentive to other solutions. Vitiello adds that Milan want a physically strong player, who is not very young – i.e. not another 18-year-old – and the preferred formula would be a paid loan with option to buy.
