MN: Objectives completed and memories made – Milan’s dream 2022 closes

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan played their last game of 2022 last night and signed off on a memorable year in the right way after a dramatic 2-0 win over Fiorentina.

MilanNews writes how Milenkovic’s own-goal in added team secured an important win for the Rossoneri who remain 8 points behind the leaders Napoli after a calendar year that started with a 3-1 victory over Roma at San Siro and which brought the club the league title after an 11-year wait.

The report reflects on a ‘dream year’ which had some difficulties starting from the defeat against Spezia and a lacklustre 0-0 at home against Juventus in February, but then memorable victories came like the one against Napoli away and the comeback in the derby.

Thanks to the youth of Rafael Leao and the ice cold experience of Olivier Giroud, Pioli’s team won the Scudetto with a young but mature and strong team in which everyone made a fundamental contribution. Tonali, Kalulu, Theo, Calabria, Kessie, Krunic and more – everyone played their part.

Milan also achieved another dream that they had been chasing for some time by qualifying for the round of 16 of the Champions League, definitively marking the return of the club to the top levels of international football after the league title win.

Now there will be a break for the World Cup which, for Milan, comes all in all at a good time. The Rossoneri won against Fiorentina in the last minute but for a few games they have looked quite tired, while injuries have also played a part.

Seven Rossoneri players will be involved in the World Cup, while some others will go to the national team for some friendly matches and then they will meet at the beginning of December to prepare for the second part of the season which will start again in January 2023. It is important though to look back at an important 2022 with fondness.
