In these last two months AC Milan have suffered heavy criticism, often fair and legitimate based on what can be seen on the pitch, but comparisons with last season seem disingenuous.
The summer mercato has come under fire as a result, too. MilanNews writes how it is true that the squad in some roles is still incomplete and should certainly be improved and strengthened in upcoming transfer windows, but it is equally clear that – of the 10 signings completed in the summer – many are performing positively.
The sale of Sandro Tonali allowed Milan to significantly increase the budget and, consequently, to go out and sign 10 players. Christian Pulisic, Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Tijjani Reijnders are already key pieces of the team and their performances – especially with regards to the American – have been generally good.
Added to them is the constant growth of the reserve attacking trident of Noah Okafor, Luka Jovic and Samuel Chukwueze who, especially in the last few games played, are finding confidence as well as goals and assists. Yunus Musah also did very well, showing his maturity and flexibility despite being 21.
It is clear that the team can be improved and additions are sought for the defence above all in January, but it is equally true to say that the squad given to Pioli is absolutely up to the club’s ambitions and with significant potential yet to be expressed.
The Rossoneri coach himself declared it after the bittersweet victory in Newcastle: “I’m sorry that I wasn’t able to maximise this potential, now we have to work on this. I’m only sorry for this, I believe that this is a strong team and that it can do better than what it has done up to now.” If the potential is there, it is because the mercato was good.
Musah has not done well. He is limited technically and his concentration is awful. Okafor hasn’t really done much either.
Musah is 21 and needs time to grow. Were you any good on the international stage at 21? right….
Okafor hasn’t seen much playing time given Leao dominates however has already scored two goals.
You need rosier glasses or something?
“Musah is 21 and needs time to grow. Were you any good on the international stage at 21? right….”
Whether any of us were on Messi’s level at 21 is irrelevant. MBM isn’t wrong about Musah though.
Okafor has done pretty well with his VERY limited appearences.
Lol 🤣🤣🤣 wtf did I just read.
Apart from Puli, the rest I dunno…..
Almost half way through the season and we’re still at “hope”..come on now 😂
I disagree. Pulisic hit the ground running, definitely. Reijnders has done well. Jovic is getting better. Chuk and Musah need more time. RLC HAS been inconsistent. I’ll give you that.
But also let’s keep in mind Pioli’s constant tactical tinkering that breaks any sort of rhythm. Too early to hand out grades I think.
We’ll have to agree to disagree here ACM1899
But in some ways you do get that you’re supporting my point which was clearly I can say confidently Puli being a good signing so far. Reinjders hasn’t exactly lit it up (name a game he shone in for example?) but is probably the runner up. And the rest as you’ve listed are really like I said still “hope” they turn out well.
They are still better than the garbage that was bought last year, Milan would be 10th right now with last year’s depth
But your fav Paldini thought depth is useless, its more important for him to hold onto every player even if they dont want to be here.
There you go! Much better. Stick to replying to other people’s comments because when you tried to do it on your own you failed miserably 😂😂😂. Funny how last year we would be 10th this year but we can’t progress out of the UCL group stage with the current lot. Logic 101
The team isn’t as good as it seems on a good day, not as terrible as on the worst ones we have seen. The general discontent is we were not allowed to do the bare minimum to give our management the budget to operate 3 years until now. All of the sudden, they open the wage budget when the people who put us in a position to do so were given marching orders abd attributed them to incompetent, inexperienced bootlickers that made rookie mistakes which cost us the beginning of this season.
Do not understand why we should be happy with the work of moncada, furlani and pioli this year. Thrashed by inter 5-1 and by PSG 3-0; out of race for scudetto by november; out of champions league by december; made fools of ourselves in our matches against leece and atalanta; have turned milanello into a centre for chronically injured players …. yes, we have lots of things to celebrate this year ……
