MN: Pioli ready to give young star Tonali a starting spot against Celtic in midfield rotation

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan boss Stefano Pioli is set to make at least one change to the midfield for Thursday night’s game against Celtic, a report claims.

Sandro Tonali has been gradually phased in over the past few games following his summer move from Brescia, and he made an appearance off the bench for his boyhood club Milan against city rivals Inter in Saturday’s 2-1 win in the derby.

As MilanNews reports, it is a dream come true for Tonali who now wants to become part of the backbone of a team which have now not lost for 20 consecutive games in all competitions.

“He is a player with great prospects, great qualities and knows how to move the ball fast,” Pioli said in an interview earlier on Monday.

Tonali knows that to become a starter he will have to work incredibly hard to steal a permanent starting spot from Franck Kessie or Ismael Bennacer, but there will be plenty of chances for him to start in rotation situations.

As a result, Pioli is ready to give him a chance from the first minute on Thursday in Europe against Celtic, as one of Kessie and Bennacer (or possibly both) should be rested.
