MN: Pioli sends a firm message to Paqueta – now the Brazilian faces another crossroads

By Oliver Fisher -

Some eyebrows were raised when it was revealed that head coach Stefano Pioli had left Lucas Paqueta out of the squad to face Shamrock Rovers.

MilanNews have confirmed that the decision to exclude Paqueta from the 20-man squad was entirely a technical one and nothing to do with injuries, perhaps a shock given Milan will make the trip to Dublin without two wingers in Rafael Leao and Ante Rebic.

Pioli’s decision is an obvious signal to the player: either he changes clubs or he risks being fully excluded, because he is not part of the project now or in the future.

Tomorrow the Brazilian will train at Milanello together with the others not called up for the match in Ireland, but the crossroads has now arrived just as it did in January.

Last year, the former Flamengo playmaker went so far as to ask not to be called up before the match against Brescia as he was unhappy mentally. Fiorentina wanted him, but no deal was done, and while Lyon are now interested a non call-up is not exactly appealing to potential buyers.

The report adds that it must now be seen whether the player will pick up the message or whether Pioli truly is done with Paqueta.

  1. Pioli has done some good things but he’s an idiot for leaving Paquetá behind. He’s the kind of player that needs reassurance from the coach and Pioli has given him none. Perhaps it’s a language barrier, or something else, but Paquetá can be a great player in a long season with 3 competitions. It’s ridiculous to force him out.

  2. ” a non call-up is not exactly appealing to potential buyers”

really why not, whos to say if it isnt just to avoid an injury that potentially could put a full stop on a sale of the brazilian and thereby also further affecting how we can act in the remaining transfer window, Anyways if he endsup in the french leaugue im sure he will excell as a player.

  3. We are not treatinng Paqueta right. Tbh, Pioli has gotten this wrong. Paqueta needs time. Why are we so in a hurry to sell players. Same way we hurridly sold Aubameyang, Cristante, and so on……..

  4. Let’s not forget that when he came to Milan, he was introduced as a young player with a great future. This is a u-turn. Who is responsible ?

  5. I really am not in support of Milan selling Paqueta.. The guy just needs time. We saw his qualities before signing him and he was tipped as one for the future. #letPaquetastay #forzamilan
