MN: €450m revenues, three wins – Scaroni reignites accounts vs. results debate

Paolo Scaroni’s words last night from the Festival dello Sport have once again sparked the debate regarding the battle between sporting results and the accounts for AC Milan.

Scaroni’s comments have previously divided opinion as he has been a figure within the club that has often reined in expectations, by stating that the top four is the target and focusing more on financial parameters. However, last night he admitted that good accounts have to go hand in hand with wins.

“I have been president of Milan for more than six years and when I joined we were receiving less than 180 million euros (revenues), now we are getting more than 450 million. The economic point of view is important, but it is only one part of the success. If we don’t win games we don’t go anywhere. These are two issues that depend on each other,” he said.

“The issue of economic sustainability is very important. Until some time ago there were presidents like Berlusconi and Moratti who put millions into the club at the end of the season to put things right. Now the situation is different and sustainability is fundamental.”

As MilanNews writes, in the 2023-24 season, the Board of Directors of the club approved the consolidated financial statements for the financial year ending 30 June 2023, which recorded a positive net result of €4.1m (profit). This is the second consecutive financial statement that Milan closed with a profit.

If the economic side is smiling, the one on the pitch is not because Milan are struggling a lot to get consistent results this season so far. In nine games played across the league and the Champions League, there have been four defeats, two draws and only three victories.

This is too little for a team that started with the ambition of winning silverware. On Saturday there is Udinese at San Siro, then on Tuesday Club Brugge come to town. A turning point is expected, because the ‘accounts Scudetto’ is wearing thin.

  1. We will soon get a second star in the accounting Scudetto, wait and see.

Times has changed since Berlusconi poured millions into ACM, and financial accountability and sustainability is important. At least for all clubs but Man C and other arab owned clubs, who finance UEFA.

But imagine what a real talented and skilfull manager in combination with a professional sporting director could do a magic for the club?

In stead of re-inventing the midfield every transfer window, an experienced sporting director would work more long time. Build upon past successes, step-by-step in close cooperation with a manager, rather than a cheap yes-man.

Just imagine. But hey, hurray for the 4 million.

  2. God punish the current Milan owner and the management stupid people enemy of progress God will disgrace you people as you’re disgraceful our Milan love one players for yout stupidity players flop player cheap player stupid and useless management fellow Sempre Milan 💯❤️ bring back our Milan back where it’s belong too missed my Milan 💯🥲🥲✅

  3. Yes we are profitable again.

Please fans buy home game ticket, we want profitable again next season. Who care about troph. This is trophyless cardinale milan.

  4. I mean Redbird didn’t even do anything, it was already in motion set by Elliot and Gazidis. He was the one that set the club on the right path financially as he is one of the best in that, so these guys are taking credit for mostly his work. Scaroni, time to do something with that money, win titles, be a protagonist in CL like Inter. Not tell stupid stories every season.
