MN: Seven years and two trophies – Romagnoli’s respectable Milan adventure ends

By Isak Möller -

Alessio Romagnoli is destined to leave AC Milan this summer as his contract will expire at midnight. A move to Lazio beckons and with that in mind, it’s the perfect timing to take a look at the captain’s respectable spell at Milan.

Romagnoli joined Milan in 2015 from Roma, costing the Rossoneri a fee of around €25m. It was a significant investment from the club back then and the defender didn’t exactly disappoint, always acting with the utmost professionalism.

As highlighted by MilanNews, Milan were a rather mediocre team at the start of Romagnoli’s adventure but he was always the bright spot. He was able to defend his starting spot until the arrival of Fikayo Tomori, really, when the bar was raised a lot.

He never complained, however, about the move to the bench and continued to give his everything as the captain of the club. He never said anything bad and always did his best when he was called upon, which is what you want from a player.

After seven years, Romagnoli made a total of 247 appearances for Milan and found the back of the net ten times. He also got two trophies in the process, the Supercoppa in 2016 and the Scudetto this past season.

Now, a move to Lazio awaits and Romagnoli can look back at his Milan adventure with great pride. In addition to good performances, he also showed great character and now he will hand over the armband to Davide Calabria.

  1. The fact we’re going on this roundabout search for a CB when we have a plenty capable one right here who in truth does not have that crazy of salary demands and we won’t simply pay him and renew is sad. I wish we would change our minds and just renew. CB search would be over and we could focus what little funds we have elsewhere.

    1. My Milanista friend, maybe Romagnoli doesn’t want the bench, thus moving to his childhood club to be a starter, which should be respected. Wish he stays, though, too. AC Milan needs Italians and professionals!

  2. Was thrilled when he signed back then.
Was always the better player for most of his time here.
It’s a pity he didn’t quite kick on, but I’ll always be a fan of this guy.
    He was a good capitano
