MN: Sprained ankle suspected for Calhanoglu – how long he may be out for

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan midfielder Hakan Calhanoglu has hopefully avoided a serious injury after he left training on crutches on Tuesday afternoon.

Sky journalist Manuele Baiocchini (via MilanNews) reported earlier today that the 27-year-old had left Tuesday’s training on crutches after a suspected sprained ankle to be evaluated with new tests.

The extent of the injury and the recovery time remains to be discovered, but he will certainly miss Thursday’s Europa League group stage opener against Celtic.

According to a report from MilanNews, Calhanoglu has suffered what is believed to be a sprain to his left ankle, so today and/or tomorrow he will undergo medical checks to assess the extent of the damage suffered.

However, if it is confirmed as a sprain then the recovery time should not be too worrying. It is common for athletes to recovered from ankle sprains in 2-10 days depending on the extent of the sprain and the swelling incurred.
