MN: What is needed to convince Donnarumma to stay at Milan

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan are facing a delicate situation regarding the renewal of Gianluigi Donnarumma and must make certain assurances, a report claims.

The Rossoneri’s prized young goalkeeper was linked with an exit throughout the summer but ended up remaining, however the fact that his contract expires in 2021 has led to somewhat of a crossroads.

As a report on MilanNews.it notes, Donnarumma’s situation has become ‘an attractive prospect for possible suitors and worrying for Milan’, with Juventus mentioned as interested.

Milan have already faced a similar situation back in 2017 when talks with agent Mino Raiola went on for a while and it appeared that he would not sign a new deal at all.

However, the report notes that Raiola holds the current ownership in a lot higher regard than the previous Fassone-Mirabelli tandem, something which could work in the Diavolo’s favour.

Donnarumma has the Rossoneri colours at heart, MilanNews continues, but the continuous failure to get into the Champions League – something which looks set to continue for another season – do not fit well with his objectives.

To convince him to stay, once again, it will require more than money: there will need to be certainty of competitiveness by acquiring serious players to raise the level of the squad in terms of ability and experience.

To make sure that Donnarumma remains, it is necessary that Boban and Maldini offer him guarantees, not only of the long-term project but of an immediate return to being competitive, the report concludes.
