MN: Why Furlani, Moncada and D’Ottavio are convinced by Alejo Veliz

AC Milan’s pursuit of a centre-forward continues despite the signing of Noah Okafor from Red Bull Salzburg, and it seems Alejo Veliz is the chosen name.

According to MilanNews, the management trio of Giorgio Furlani, Goeffrey Moncada and Antonio D’Ottavio are working on the signing of a striker to work alongside Olivier Giroud and Okafor, especially if Lorenzo Colombo were to leave on loan.

The radar of the scouting department has been cast towards South America and more specifically to Rosario Central, where their 19-year-old striker Alejo Veliz has caught the eye given he has 11 goals in 22 league games for them this season.

His goal in October 2022 in the derby against Newell’s Old Boys – an instinctive header which demonstrated his aerial ability – was how Veliz announced himself on the big stage.

Veliz has established himself as the starting striker for Rosario but also for the Argentina U20 national team, scoring three times in four games for them at the World Cup last month, playing alongside Luka Romero.

Why are Milan so convinced aside from his goals? Veliz reflects a typology of centre-forward much more similar to Giroud than the new addition Okafor, given that he is up for a physical battle with defenders at 190cm tall.

He has established a trend of scoring headers but can also finish with his right foot from short to medium range. Moreover, he has a €14m release clause which can be negotiated down to €12m, so Moncada has sensed the opportunity to get a talented forward without breaking the bank.

    1. This kid have good physical like giroud . Pioli always like striker that strong on aerial duel , so yeah he wont resist this transfer . I have good feeling that this kid can do better than origi for ACM

  1. Much better prospect than Columbo. Dream was Wahi but at 30-35M never would happen so Veliz is a solid option. Let’s go

  2. No thanks, give colombo a chance. Hes homegrown, has Serie A experience and is a good prospect.

I know everyone is buzzing on transfers but the more is not the merrier. Lets keep some continuity.
Its also important for the youth sector to show there is a path to the first team

    1. You’d be willing to pass on a talent that will likely triple in price for a longshot that scored six goals last season for a lower rank Serie A team? I will pass. Colombo is just another Petagna.

      1. This football manager mindset is exactly the problem.
Thats not how “TEAMS” are built.

It requires heart, commitment and understanding your team mates.

Yes i would take Colombo and his 6 goals over a guy who’s scored 11 in Argentinian league.
And as u say that was for a struggling team in Serie A, not a top team in Argentina.
Colombo is a bomber, he played very very well in preseason.

The rest I have already said regarding our youth sector and our identity

        1. FYI remember when we spent 5m on Lazetic? Playing in the Serbian second division!
We have a primavera for a reason and some of those guys are really good

Your just excited by signings, I think its much more exciting to see home grown talent come through

          1. Yes everyone loves the romance of a player coming through the youths ranks and conquering football but Colombo would be like a new singing he has not spent time playing with the players now in our first team.

With Colombo we have the luxury of time but if we do not sign this kid now we could miss out big time

Love Colombo and his attitude but this kid will be an important signing marl my words

    2. relax Bro, Colombo is good & can be better, even if Veliz coming, he’s more like Giroud beckup/replacement, will take time to adapt & Giroud not getting younger

  3. Dont let this chance miss again like we missed kolo muani & julian alvarez because choose experience player like origi . He can learn from giroud in squad , have same physical with giroud & good at aerial duel . 14m euro are cheap and torino already offer bid below that 14m euro
