MN: Why Milan don’t consider Sanches as the replacement for Kessie

Franck Kessie has decided to leave AC Milan at the end of the month, as his contract will expire, and the Rossoneri are thus looking for a midfielder. Renato Sanches has been identified, but he’s not the Ivorian’s replacement.

Indeed, as highlighted by MilanNews, Milan and Stefano Pioli already have a replacement in their squad: Sandro Tonali. The Italian is a warrior, just like Kessie, and used his physical strength to give Milan an advantage in the midfield battle.

Sanches, meanwhile, isn’t that similar to Kessie in terms of playing style. He likes to be on the ball a lot and is clearly better than Kessie technically. The latter, on the other hand, shines when the opponents are in possession.

The imminent arrival of the Lille midfielder, therefore, is not to replace Kessie but rather to reinforce the squad and balance the numerical situation. He will play in the midfield tandem, of course, but his role is different.
