GdS: Modric is Leao’s ‘last chance’ to fulfil destiny – the situation at Milan

AC Milan signed Luka Modric in the summer with aspirations of returning to winning silverware, but it may have been to extend their chances of doing so.

Modric is someone who has shared a dressing room with the very best talents in the world. Cristiano Ronaldo, Gareth Bale, and Karim Benzema, just to name a few. The Croatian is one of the most decorated players in world football.

Experience like that rubs off on others, and whilst he has not signed for Milan to give up winning titles, he will also help create new champions, it is hoped.

Modric and Allegri for Leao

Gazzetta dello Sport speak today about the impact he could have on Rafael Leao in what could be the Portuguese’s last chance in the Rossoneri colours. Massimiliano Allegri and Modric can both help to create the ‘champion’ Leao, which has been sought for so long.

Adrien Rabiot said as much, suggesting that he could be great, but he has his flaws. Flaws that, ultimately, could see him revert to a bench player, like he was for large parts of last season.

Modric and Allegri, then, can be examples of what is expected, the former more so. The Croatian is a leader, a sign of the bar being raised, and Leao needs to reach it.

If he can ‘become a Modric’, assert himself on the pitch with desire and character, then the Diavolo would solve many problems. It would also bring that ‘champion’ label to Leao, one that has evaded him for so long.

  1. As Allegri said, help yourself, eo God can help you.
Leao has to be willing to learn and improve, which he hasn’t been and doesn’t look like he will ever be.
In Milan he already has Franco Baresi in the building, he had Maldini in the building, he had/has Ibrahimovic in the building, he had Giroud in the building, with Portugal he has Cristiano Ronaldo in the building, all great players and professionals that played/ play in their 40’s, great examples of champions and what did Leao take from them? Nothing.
Luka is just another great champion who will waste his time with Leao.
Allegri will be just another coach who will just lose his mind with Leao.
You can’t teach effort. Either you are willing to do it or you are not. If you need a coach to constantly remind you that you need to run, you ain’t getting it.
For how long people waited and hoped for Balloteli and Cassano to change, mature, grow up and start acting like grown men and professionals? It never happened.
Don’t hold your breath that Leao will.

    1. You are right that he didnt learn anything but i am not sure that Luka(and Allegri) will waste time on Leao.

Luka already served him balls that he just needs to score, game after game it will get better i am sure. Just as the artice says if Luka cant wake up Leao really no one cant but time will tell but i have a really good feeling.

You remember when Ibra played with Leao, we were champions and Leao played prime time football, now Modrić(and Allegri) will do the best to wake the fool up, have some faith my friend.

  2. Jesuz, day 4 of Leao-mageddon and it doesn’t seem to be letting up. See you guys when we come back from break. Unbelievable.

  3. It’s pathetic and hilarious to say the least. Media and folks talking about Leao like he’s some bum, everyone’s waiting to deliver and stats don’t exist. Kid barely played this season and even those 90 minutes he spent on the field, he was deployed in a new role. Lmao bunch of clowns riding the media hype.

But it’s all going according to my predictions. Leao must leave, he’s a top earner maxing out on salary cap. Besides they brought Nkunku as his replacement already. Let’s see how that pans out for these Wall Street greaseballs.

    1. Allegri spoke to @DAZN_IT:
On Leão’s nissed chances what does he need to add to his game as a striker?
“It’s not a new position for him if I’m not nistaken, he already played as a center forward at Lille when he was young. The novement he made on Modrić’s pass was a striker’s movement a vonderful diagonal run. But
when he gets there, a player like him with two chances nust score.”

Are Albertini, Capello, Del Piero, Allegri himself, Ambrosini, his own teammate Rabiot also clowns that are riding the media hype?
Most importantly, what does playing a new position has to do with missing clear goal scoring chances?
If Milan wanted to sell Leao, he would already been gone.

      1. “Most importantly, what does playing a new position has to do with missing clear goal scoring chances?”

Wtf, everything? Leao played 24 matches with Lille scoring 8 goals with 3 assist. Since he joined Milan and played his natural position, Rafael Leão has the most assists in Serie A – 35 assists since 2021/2022.

And you will just neglect the fact he played around 90 minutes of football in Serie A this season? Get off the hype train or ease up a bit on your fantasy football.

        1. WTF, Everything!
          Great answer.
What does that have to do with missing clear goal scoring chances?
It has nothing to do with playing in a new position.
Playing in a position that you are not used to might cause you problems getting into a scoring chamces, once you are there, which he was, there is no excuse for not scoring.
He is an Attacking player, not a defender who was asked to play in attack.
          Just excuses.
He was out for one month, not a year. More excuses.
He has never been prolific goal scorer, thats why you moved the conversation to assists.
You did nothing to answer the question but moved the goalpost to talk about other things.

          1. Tell me you never played football without telling me. It has nothing to do with playing a new position? Hey maybe since Gimenez is completely wasteful up front as a natural striker but plays well in the build up maybe he should be attacking midfielder. Then he should have no excuses not assisting when in chance, right? Lmao, and you’re bashing Leao for missing one chance after coming back from injury. Like I said, stick with your fantasy football app.

  4. Total speculation here but you’ll NEVER, EVER, win a Scudetto with Leao.

He’s just not Scudetto winning material.

There’s more of a chance of me winning a Scudetto than this SCUMBAG.

I only wish something awful would happen to Leao.

Because that’s what true fans do.

They hate the players who play for the club they allegedly support.

ESPECIALLY players who have played for the club for more than 5 mins.

We all know that love dissipates over time. The longer you’re with someone or watch a player the less you love them.

MORE SO if they had the audacity to bring you Scudetto (which obviously never happened because REMEMBER Leao is NOT Scudetto winning material….it’s a vibe thing with ceilings and stuff).

Out with the old, in with the new.

    1. Hey, look, it’s Mr ” I never supported Como against Milan” here to share his wisdumb and tell others “what true fans do.” GTFOH

      1. I never supported Como against Milan…..

But clearly you’re blinded by BS so lost some comprehension skills.

Shame as you’re one of the few people on here who is actually sensible and loyal.

        1. Oh you didn’t read my rebuttal to when you said that in the ratings article? How convenient! I know Im loyal and thank you for that but I know you ain’t loyal and you have no business lecturing other people about loyalty.

I’ll lay it here for you again so you can once more ingore it but I will always point our your hypocrisy:

5 things we learned Como – Milan
          Maldinis Heir

          16 January 2025, 0:56 at 12:56 am

          I think I am done.

I was supporting Como in that game.

There’s nothing to connect me to this Milan. You simply cannot have an Italian club side that has zero Italians in the starting 11.

          …”

THIS IS YOU RIGHT? GTFOH This is ot what ” true fans do”

          1. If the reason to root against Milan was the lack of Italian players in the squad, than picking to root for Como is interesting since they are the club with the least Italian players in their squad this season.
Only 3 Italians have played for them so far this season.
            Goldinga 91 minutes
            Cerri 6 minutes
            Bonsignori 12 minutes.
            🤣🤣🤣

          2. Well done for picking up on a throwaway comment on the internet….

I didn’t even watch the game. I didn’t watch a single football match after Calabria’s last game last season.

In that rant I’m talking about the lack of Italians (which as an Italian I find infuriating) but Calabria really was the last straw for me.

And I find nothing short of f’ing disgraceful that more people on here did not stand up for their captain (and many revelled in it).

Loyalty is about supporting a player who has played and captained your club for years.

Whatever the thing that was left after Calabria was not Milan. I’m starting to recognise the club at little now, but it’s still got a long way to go.

        2. So back then you came here to post that you lied about watching the game for what exactly?! That you are an attention seeking ho’? Stop lying AGAIN. B!TCH you are the most hypocritical person on this forum.

You got caught and now you’re back tracking.
You literally said “I was supporting Como in that game.” Regardless of if you are now pretending that you didn’t watch the game….which you did …do you want me to pull that too? You might have some serious mental issues with a lie like that because prior to the game you were talking about not watching the game of Calabria or Gabbia didn’t play. So this was well before Calabria left.

You fail to realize I have a very good memory when it comes to you and your shenanigans. Throwaway comment? Bro you did that sh;t the whole of last season, same nonsense. Talking about we lacked Italians as you’ve admitted here, yet you went and support a team with almost zero Italians in the team, a foreign coach and a foreign owner. Only there because you “have a closer connection” to that club. Remember that or you “never said that” too? FOH. Coming back here talking about you recognize us. We’re still the same, we just have an Italian coach, same number of Italians in the starting lineup, same owner.
You are loyal to the players, not the club. Go watch Parma, eat your Parma ham (it’s made in Italy) and go watch Cutrone since you like former players so much.

          1. 🤣🤣🤣 facts, I remember all this the same as you. I think MH likes Allegri and that Gabbia is a central figure this season so he can support again.

  5. It will be a miracle for him to come of age, especially when a fallen Milan sees him as a star boy who is not fit to tie even pato’s boots. Lazy star indeed

    1. Pato is the biggest What If Milan player.
I thought he could have challenged Messi, Cristiano, even Neymar supremacy during the last 15 years. Unfortunately his body failed him.
He was a much better talent than Leao though.

  6. I find it spectacular that Leao conversations are back in the media. It’s the same player we’ve always had. Nothing has changed.

Just like when we’re back from the break and play Fiorentina and Leao likely scores, media will get behind him and hail “the Allegri effect…” Laughable.

    1. “It’s the same player we’ve always had. Nothing has changed.”

Yeah, but the thing is that everyone “expects” him to level up and find consistency.

  7. But Allegri is playing him out of his natural position. You can’t see the best of him if you play in CENTRE FORWARD. You can see that if you play him by the LEFT WING SIDE of the pitch
