Luka Modric has asked for guarantees from AC Milan regarding their ambitions for next season if he is to stay, Fabrizio Romano reports.
Modric once again started in the heart of the team on Sunday afternoon as Milan ran out 1-0 winners away from home against struggling Hellas Verona. The Croatian was everywhere as he usually is, running his socks off for the team and being an important shield for the defence.

However, as things currently stand, Modric has five games left before his contract with the Rossoneri expires. There seems to be reason for optimism that the former Real Madrid might might say yes to another season, though it seems various conditions must be met.
Romano: Modric wants assurances
Romano spoke about the situation surrounding Modric and the possibility of him staying for another year during an update video on his YouTube channel published this evening.
“First of all, we must emphasise that Luka Modric’s contract currently includes a unilateral option, so there’s no need for negotiations to finalise a possible renewal of the Croatian’s contract with the Rossoneri,” he said.
“Milan have taken all the necessary steps, both at the management level and in terms of convincing by his team-mates. Everyone wants him to stay at Milanello, everyone is pushing for Modric to play another season, and this remains the case, regardless of the team’s recent poor performance.
“The club, the coaching staff, and the players aren’t changing their minds and want Luka to stay with the Rossoneri, but it’s not a matter of financial gain or desire, but rather a matter that touches on other issues. Modric wants to ensure Milan are in the Champions League next season.
“He has a very strong relationship with Massimiliano Allegri, and they hold each other in high regard. But the competitiveness of the Rossoneri team must be taken into consideration, given that the Croatian is very ambitious and expects the club to provide the coach with a squad worthy of the club, especially given that they must play in a European competition.
“Therefore, Milan are doing their part and has given Modric carte blanche: whenever he wants, he can sign. There is great optimism; these are the steps, especially regarding Milan’s competitiveness.”

Hes 41, cant take corners, cant take free kick, and has a weak shot. What wont hey let rabiot take Free kicks
Ewu!!!
Insanity. Ever thought they were a weak team in the air outside of Pavlo and Gabbia? We’re a terrible service team and an even worse areal team. You’re mental of you think Modric is a problem. I’ll take
Him for another 2 with my eyes Closed. We wouldn’t be where we are without his leadership, hassle, and stability.
I was watching the Ronaldinho doc earlier, almost tearing up at the fanfare and packed stadium when he arrived at Milan, we were a huge club. Now we’re begging a 40 yr old to stay and build a team around him
clearly one of our bests this season…
we have to beg him cause currently this is as close as we get with Ballon D’Or winner level players… this is the actual sad part, not Modric
Funny thing is that Ronaldinho was already on the wane when he arrived at Milan. He was still good, but clearly not the player he was when at his Barcelona peak. And he was only 28. Shevchenko left us at his peak, as did Kaka. Milan was and is a huge club, but there have always been bigger and richer clubs (even if not that many at certain points) who will either sign our best players in their prime, or from whom we’ll take a top player that’s just past his prime. That’s the zone we’ve inhabited since the period 1987-2004, when we were making prime signings (thereafter we signed players who became good while at Milan e.g. Pato and Thiago Silva, or had just gone off the boil, e.g. Ronaldinho), with the exception of Ibrahimovic’s first spell in 2011 (as he was definitely still in his prime).
He can go. He slows down the play.
Does he slow down th eplay because he’s getting old or does he slow down the play because outside of Rabiot he has not one decent enough on the ball to play with/through?
He doesn’t trust the other players. He’s too afraid of giving away the ball.
That’s fair. So it’s not that Modric slows down the play through a fault of his own – it’s that he’s limited with his options, which is my point…
Idk what happened, the whole team was better and more focused to run AS a team at the beginning of the season. I can remember some delicious passes from Modric. A) he made them and B) he had someone to pass to.
Age, in Modric’s case, and shallow squad in general. Barring injuries, we’ve seen the same 11 all season long (sometimes because of injuries). Where are Ricci and Jashari? Why not use Athekame sometimes? At CB there is only De Winter for depth. Then there is no sub for Bartesaghi, and after Leao and Pulisic our attack is non-existent. Then there is the simple fact that players run more without the ball because they’re chasing, so the opposition is moving the ball and our players are running. These guys are gassed and we’re clearly limping into the finish line.
It’s a bit of both to me , yesterday Fofana lost possession so many times but not just him and modric is dwelling on the ball slowing down the play…it’s been bland and boring football for two months now and one of the reasons is this Modric & Rabiot disconnect from the others who are shrinking not growing.
Lmao…
What are you watching, baseball? Modric is the only one that seems to have his body joints still in working. Almost every other person stays in fixed position allowing themselves to be marked out by opponent. Modric is forced to create a play out of almost nothing most times.
That’s exactly what I said, I doubt you understood.
Modric doesn’t release the ball quick enough as he doesn’t want to lose possession which he knows will happen when he passes to Fofana, Athekame, Ricci, Bartesaghi etc.
It is only Rabiot( and the CB’s) that he trusts and yeah it’s also due to a lack of movement of teammates who are not of the same pedigree.
The teams play has suffered in recent months , due to this scenario and added pressure of getting to the CL spots, many players like Leao, Puli, Ricci, Bartesaghi , Athekame, and Fofana have regressed since the first months of the season.
My response was to @uberhulk though, not you…
Without Modric, Milan would be 3 spots down this season.
Modric is right club must invest more in stronger players not plusvalenza players.
Nkunku kind of purchase was nice try.
Jashari, Ricci, De Winter – those are all plusvalenza kinds of players.
Is it better to have great players with bigger results and more revenues through play, than every year calculate which next player is going to be plusvalenza?
In my opinion with Modric Rabiot and Fofana we have sold start. Bringing Goretzka or that caliber of player – we have more opportunities and rotations which club will need if plays on 2 fronts.
Without Modrich and Rabiot this, Milan will be fighting for Europa league this season, it’s guarantee Como and Roma would have finished above Milan.Thank u Modrich, thank you Rabiot, thank you Mike Mighnan for staying
Nkunku is not giving enough playing time in my opinion
He spent half the time on the pitch pretending to be a ghost. Maybe that is why?
He’s fat and he’s slow. He only moves well in the box.
