By Oliver Fisher -

Alvaro Morata has finally provided some clarity on his future, confirming that he is leaving Atletico Madrid and is all set to join AC Milan pending a medical.

As reported by AS (via MilanNews), today Morata said goodbye to his team-mates and staff at Atletico. After winning Euro 2024 with Spain, he went to the Wanda Metropolitano in the afternoon to speak in person with directors Enrique Cerezo and Miguel Ángel Gil and explain the reasons for his decision to leave.

Immediately afterwards, the future Milan forward also wanted to go and say goodbye to Diego Simeone and his team-mates, who are training in Los Ángeles de San Rafael which is about an hour from Madrid.

On his way out of the training ground, he was stopped by a reported and he confirmed that a move to the Rossoneri is now imminent.

“It was important for me to say goodbye to them and thank them for everything. Am I going to Milan? I still have to do a medical, but yes I am.”

  1. I think he was crucial for our team. Anyone can see how he’s a proficient goal scorer and works well with wingers. He did this with Williams and Yemal. It will be interesting to see him with Leao, Pulisic and Chukwueze.

  2. Experience, leadership, guaranteed goals, linkup play, affordable… and I’m supposed to be p*ssed at this because….?

    1. People here will complain about everything.

First, they were complaining Milan is using moneyball tactic to make profit on players. Then they were complaining that morata is too cheap and owners don’t want to spend much. Then they were complaining Morata is too expensive when they saw news with total cost of operation. 🤣

Guy literally just won Euro being a captain and starter player, scored tons of goals last 2 seasons, yet still marked as crap and not good enough here. Ridiculous

      1. Yep – out of who’s actually available within our budget this move makes sense. Wait, Ibra pushed for it though and he’s now apparently just some dumb yes man so it doesn’t make any sense 🙃.

      2. They feed on the excitement of a new upcoming players, and will be the very ones that throw them under the bus when they are adapting slowly.

Milan don’t have a lot of income and building a new stadium. The club is compromising it’s salary cap (which hv been keeping the book jn order so we can compete in the Europe), to keep the likes of Leao, the very core of the team
Sacrifice Tonali to fill the gap in many positions.
This is not perfect, but Milan have to work with what they got, not with fantasy debts.

Milan have been on shambles for many years and lost the opportunity to get their hands on the new generation of fans during the early social media era so it takes a while to get back into the big boys.

Zirkzee won’t flourish in PL and will be sold in 2 years. He was overpriced and not worth that much

      3. The people complaining right now that we have less ambitions than Atalanta were not complaining when we won a Scudetto. But considering how the “optimistic” fans around like to sht on the previous management, I think they were complaining at the time. Tells a lot about the ambitions of the fans. Some are here for glory and trophies, some are here for trading and clean tidy budget.

Now it’s a fine recruitment for the holy 4th place. Some fans are just disappointed that Milan doesn’t chase for better players and trophies despite all that “ambition” that we heard about all year long from the clowns at Casa Milan.

    2. The problem is again about hope and expectation. The expectation was high for our striker dept when we’re close to Zirkzee (young, exciting, and yes expensive). You can also look expensive as a plus, as the sign of management’s seriousness. I’m not saying Morata is bad and all, but going from the likes of Zirkzee to him is surely a ‘downgrade’ and compromise. Clear to see that they do not have a fixed / ideal standard to begin with.

Same case with Fonseca. Going from a higher profile like Conte, or a more exciting name such as De Zerbi, to the safe bet like Fonseca seemed like they’re playing with the fans’ hope and expectation.

It won’t be that case if from the beginning management had declared the fixed criteria, as in they’re looking for experienced and fit-the-bill striker, and middle-class coach, I’m sure we wouldn’t have this prolonged disputation.

      1. Yep, the only way that exciting ppl here are expensive. As long as expensive they will happy. Conte will become highest salary coach in serie A while JZ will break record transfer ACM if deal . The keyword expensive are so good in their brain and thinking cheap will be failure. This is sad for young football fans in 2024. ACM get kaka , seedorf, gattuso ,serginho with cheap price . Cafu even come at old age. Who know coach like sachi, capello, zaccheroni, ancelotti, pioli dont win scudetto or CL before they are coming to ACM , all of that coach not famous or request highest salary like conte

      2. Agree 99% – trust me, they’d still be whining if management said up front that they’re going for “safe” not “sexy.”

      3. I don’t see how Morata is a downgrade from Zirkzee. They’re different profiles sure (which begs the question how exactly did we select both of them ?) but aside from being “promising” I don’t see why Zirkzee is such a big deal.

        1. Management’s willingness to spend 40 mil for a single player (the kind of transfer we haven’t seen for years) compared to settling down in 13 mil is surely a ‘downgrade’ in terms of commitment. And the different profile / criteria / standard is also my bottom-line. Contrary to the theory that Fonseca’s request played a big role in this move, I don’t think they’d get anywhere near Morata if the asking price is 20-30 mil. And that’s the truth. They didn’t have the fixed criteria to begin with.

I just hope that the ‘surplus’ of this Morata transfer will be invested in other area that we also need to be reinforced. Obviously not for the likes of Emerson or Tammy.

          1. The fact that Zirkzee costs 40M€ (or 55M€) doesn’t say a whole lot about his quality. We can’t say that Morata is a “downgrade” because he is cheaper than Zirkzee. And remember that (at least according to most sources), the blocking point with Zirkzee was kia’s comissions and not his release clause.
With that said, I agree that we don’t seem to have a fixed criteria for strikers (or any other players). We just go for affordable ones and if we can’t get a favourable deal or another club hijack us we’ll just go for another player who plays in the same position (even if he is vastly different). Morata wasn’t a “targer” he was an “opportunity”.
I do hope that the extra 27M€ will be invested to at minimum secure Fofana, Pavlovic et preferably a true DM, but that seems unlikely.

          2. Once again, it’s not about the player’s quality that I pointed out. I believe Morata will do well here. Just being an ex Chelsea will bost his luck. It’s about the downgrade of management’s commitment to invest.

Yup fully agreed about Morata being an opportunity, already said about it several times also on this site. While on the other hand, from last season they literally said that this season would be much of targeted transfers

        2. Yall better leave this set of fans alone, I wish they could just go to another club already, since you are so hateful of everything it’s doing just go elsewhere already and stop disturbing us that still see positively in what MILAN doing.

  3. I’m not sure if I’m happy bout it
He goal record is average at best, not very athletic and he isn’t that young
On the other hand he is a hard working players that really helps the attack and improve the wingers and Spain plays in a similar formation to us

    1. For 1-2 season i believe in him. The fact is He’s The Champion and have winning mentality, will upgrade our team.

    2. Actually his scoring result in past 2 years is one of the best in top5 Europe. Get your facts straight mate. And by looking at past 7-10 years just a few strikers in the world shown the same consistency in scoring while playing for different clubs in different leagues.

      1. He scored 15 in la Liga in last season and few more in champions
Season before 13 in la Liga
So one of the best in top 5 league? Don’t make me laugh…
At his best he played like old man giroud in his last season…
Consistency? Most of his seasons is around 10 so he is consistent in that I’m not sure it’s good enough for us at least he is better in that then zirkzee
I’m really not sure why you so happy about a striker like that. He isn’t bad by any means but I the expectations is always a 20+ goals a year

        1. “I’m really not sure why you so happy about a striker like that. He isn’t bad by any means but I the expectations is always a 20+ goals a year”
The problem is that those cost north of 70M€ per year and our management surely isn’t going to spend 70M€ on a single player while they never spent 30M€ per player.

    3. He is mobile and will be involed in build-up. Scoring goals is not everything. Team victory before personal statistic.

  4. Ibra knows the team and if ibra says they need morata imma trust that.

Wonder if we could bag Guido Rodríguez on free

        1. Rodriguez is still worth around 15-20 million euros too. And his agent isn’t Mr I need 15 million Euros in Commission. Might be a worthy idea.

          1. Only one thing I would note, besides from last season he hardly had any injuries. But then an ankle injury that caused him to miss 17 games. Hopefully he’s pass that now. Rodriguez + Fofana would make sense though.

  5. Good signing. Morata is often underestimated, just like Giroud was.

He just won Euro being captain and starter player. Scored tons of goals last 2 seasons. Has experience in top teams, Real Juve Atletico Chelsea Spain. Huge experience. Affordable and still good age for a striker.

As currently there is a shortage of good strikers (bums like Zirkzee with 1 good season cost 60mil, or Gimenez for 50mil who scored just in Dutch league), signing Morata seems like really great deal.

    1. Unlikely…. Torres was finished by injuries. Morata hardly gets injured and just had his best goal scoring season ever.
