Alvaro Morata is struggling to find the back of the net at the moment, but on Tuesday night he returns to face his former club Real Madrid which presents a big opportunity.
As MilanNews recall, Paulo Fonseca defended Morata after last night’s game against Monza: “But what Morata does for the team, how he played, for me was magnificent. Without a doubt he was the man of the match.”
It was an endorsement for the Spaniard who is increasingly becoming the leader of the dressing room, but is not leading the attack in terms of goals which has caused some fans to have growing concerns.
Fonseca and Milan wanted a striker who could help the team in ball circulation and in positional play. So far Morata has shown that he can do that, given he spends very little time in the penalty area and comes to play the ball almost in an attacking midfielder role.
The idea is that this in turn causes confusion for the defence, draws the centre-backs out and creates space for the other forwards. However, it is also necessary to underline what are also his shortcomings.
Specifically, the 32-year-old has played 11 games this season but has found the net only on two occasions, both in the league against Torino and Lecce. The work done at the service of the team is commendable, but it should not be forgotten that he is also the starting striker and he must score.
Therefore, together with the whole team, the coach and the No.7 must work on his output and a stimulus could come in the Champions League night against Real Madrid, his old club.
Twas expected. He’s a 15 G a season player, if he’s having a good season. That’s in all competitions 15G. Maybe a handful of assist to go with it.
He was never gonna bag 20,25,30 goals.
you are just as confused as this boys under fonseca. i mean flying turtle should be a confused animal in the animal kingdom. a turtle that believes (she) can fly
It’s actually meant as the world turtle but I thought flyingturtle sounds better..
Youre nickname is no less stupid. Cokeboi. How beta can you get?
he did 21 goals last season
So what? He’s an 32 yo ST with no history of being a prolific goalscorer.. is he supposed to hit his prime now and score 20+ each season? Or is it more like that was a one time thing?
We told you last summer he’s not the striker we need…but…no one listen…
He is second striker maximum or a backup. Somehow AC Milan is the worst club in the world in the last 12-15 years in the problem of finding a good striker. We just can’t do it…we can’t… Everyone can do it , even small clubs can do it…Milan just can’t… Why ? Because we don’t have a GOOD sportive director, that’s why !!! And our scouting department is trash for so many years, unacceptable situation for a club like Milan , but this is reality.
Morata is a good complimentary striker. Not a focal point of attack.
Like he has never been prolific , he is an average striker was never going to guarantee you 20+ almost every season
