Morata praises Abraham and reassures after limping off in Lecce win: “Just a precaution”

Alvaro Morata has reassured AC Milan fans that he came off during the second half of the win against Lecce as a precaution after feeling slight pain.

Milan moved top of the Serie A table for the time being as they brushed aside Lecce 3-0 at San Siro thanks to three goals in five first-half minutes, and Morata got the ball rolling with a lovely header from a Theo Hernandez free-kick.

The Spaniard had been a doubt to start the game due to bursitis – which is an inflammation of the joints – and 10 minutes into the second half his race was run as he made way for Ruben Loftus-Cheek, appearing to be in some pain.

Morata spoke to Sky straight after the game and he was asked about his condition amid the worries that he suffered some kind of injury, with his comments relayed by MilanNews.

How are you feeling physically?

“I’m fine, I just have a little pain. I haven’t been on preseason tour, I haven’t trained much and that’s normal. Now I’m starting to feel good, it’s just a precaution.”

How do you get along with Abraham?

“Very good, I’ve known him for many years, we were together at Chelsea. Very strong player, he can give much more, he needs to get into the mechanisms. I get along well with everyone.”

You got another goal…

“I’m very happy, I thought it wasn’t an assist from Theo because he doesn’t look for me much (laughs). I’m very happy, we’re on the right track.”

How is this bursitis?

“You know that I don’t know how to spell it yet? I’m making myself available to the team, I’m happy to be here. A complicated start but we’re on the right track.”

    1. He play instead of RLC , but not on his position. I think it is not clear 4231 but more like 442 or 4411 . But it is what it is , he play good on this position , against LFC assist to Pulisic and yesterday goal . Jovic was good but his problem is his game style and Camarda was not benched

    2. RLC actually did well, playing more defensively than Morata, which is what we needed; we were leading 3-0. We needed to preserve players for Leverkusen. Subbing out Morata who wasn’t in top physical shape and bringing in RLC to hold the score that was already a big lead, was absolutely correct. Paulo Fonseca actually seems to know what he is doing.

See, he brings in all the starters, crushes the midtable/bottom feeder team, then subs out the starters to preserve them for the Champions League game. That’s correct; unlike Pioli who did the opposite (huge rotations that made us drop points). I’m developing a lot of respect for Fonseca.

      Jovic did come in later.

Camarda is struggling a lot in Serie C; hasn’t scored a single goal in Serie C yet except for one from a PK. No open play goals. Camarda is 16 years old. His muscle development is still very meager. He is not ready for Serie A yet. He can’t even do well against grown men in Serie C, much less in Serie A.

Camarda last season played for 83 minutes with the first team against Fiorentina, due to an injury crisis. He didn’t do much in that game.

We have excellent grown men who play in that position; there is no need to bring a 16-year-old in.

  1. Morata’s physical condition will need monitoring with his complete lack of an off season but he’s been superb so far – quite a lot of naysaying at his signing but if he can maintain this quality and work rate he’s going to prove excellent value, he really seems to fit Serie A well.
