Alvaro Morata has voiced his support for his fellow AC Milan teammate Rafael Leao this morning, with the Portuguese currently struggling to find his feet under Paulo Fonseca.
Leao’s situation is difficult to fully unwrap, and it is possible that Milan and the player may view the situation differently. Reports have already suggested that the winger is open to a January exit, with him asking his agents to search for possibilities.
However, the chapter is not fully closed yet.
The same reports state that if his situation changes, he would stop the mandate, and with Fonseca set to name him in the starting XI against Real Madrid, he could have a chance to restart, especially with the challenge of facing Vinicius.
Ahead of the game, Morata spoke to The Athletic about a host of things, and when asked about Leao, he addressed his current moment.
“Rafa has talent, he’s the best player on the team and just needs to keep doing what he’s doing. It’s only a phase and, often, it’s like that for attacking players. A big goal or an easy one will be enough for him to get his confidence back. It’s not easy.
“Everything Rafa does is a story, but he’s so important for us and we need him. He knows that perfectly well. He’s working hard and it’s just a phase. His time will come this season and he’ll make us win.”
Comments like these are another reason why the Rossoneri signing Morata in the summer made so much sense. The Spaniard captained a youthful side to a European Championship, so supporting his teammates whilst opening up about his struggles will be massively helpful, not only to Leao but to other young players.
Rafa will not leave Milan guys, don’t say fake facts
Pulisic is the best and most complete player on Milan. Leao has the most raw talent and could be world class if he could finish, make better decisions in the final third, and if he worked hard. I do agree that Milan will need him if they are going to compete this year.
