AC Milan have done the hard work to sign Samuele Ricci, but they will go for other targets instead, it seems.
The midfield is a big area to target with a number of outgoings likely, and with Tijjani Reijnders’ sale, Ricci was supposedly going to be the one to come in. However, this will seemingly not be the case with others preferred.
Javi Guerra is now reported to be the Reijnders replacement, whilst Granit Xhaka and Luka Modric are more and more likely to arrive as the days go on, so there is not much room for the Italian, unless others depart.
Moving on
Despite setting up for Ricci for a few windows now, the Rossoneri are likely to avoid a move, unless something changes, with others preferred, as Matteo Moretto told Fabrizio Romano’s YouTube channel, via Milan News.
“Ricci is on Milan’s list, but they are now giving priority to other operations. Milan have gotten very close to Ricci in recent weeks, both with the player, with whom they have a verbal agreement, and with Torino.
“However, at the moment Ricci-Milan is on stand-by because the Devils have other priorities like Xhaka. We will see how the negotiations for Ricci evolve. There has been talk in the last few hours of Atalanta’s interest in the Granata midfielder, but it doesn’t seem to me that it is a concrete lead at the moment.”
Whether the club will change priorities during the next few weeks remains to be seen. But, right now, it seems Milan will go elsewhere.
He’s overpriced…
this managment $ucks
Why, eho the ef is Ricci to pay insane prices. We get Xhaka he will give us aolid few years at a low low price whike we get youngsters in.
Problem with signing Italian players
Yeah a 45 M€ brugge player is supposed to be stronger than him 😑
There is a reason many big teams are interested in the 45 m Brugge player, while Ricci will probably end up at Atalanta whose run is over with Gasperini’s exit.
Ricci is just a media hype
Yes, Jude Bellingham 37 million €, with 100 games in Championship at that age. Ardon Jashari, never out of Belgium, 45M. Sure…
Yep. If he was a foreigner, they’d be all over him.
Ricci is overrated and overpriced.
“Other priorities like xhaka”. What a joke. I know these articles mean absolutely nothing but this is all just annoying. Agreement close with ricci since January and all of a sudden we have other priorities like a 32 yr old
Milan has a new sporting director and a new coach since January.
Ricci isn’t a priority for Tare and Allegri.
He’s worth 20m euro max! But Italian clubs are always greedy towards us!
Xhaka is going to be 33 and so slow.
If we don’t want to spend the funds on Ricci that’s fine, just don’t use that money on someone like Vlahovic.
Have you seen Ricci play?
Xhaka at 33 and slower will be just as fast as Ricci.
Na čo máme kupovať mladých , talentovaných hráčov ,keď sa ich o rok aj tak zbavíme….Tijy…..Ja som za ako Xhaka tak aj Modric!
Italian players – bang average, no value
No need of Granit Xhaka
We already have Secured Modric
We need someone young.
Granit Xhaka not the best choice
Xhaka and Modric are completely different players though. You think because they’re over 30 they’re identical?
Feeling like a retirement home?
even Rovella is for less price.
Don’t worry, they’ll get us Partey on a free. Just watch.
Benitez, Lindelof, Partey, Xhaka, Modric, Zappacosta, Immobile, Ibra
AC Midlifecrisis
Lindelof would be a very useful player for us, isn’t old at all and would benefit from the leaving Man Utd like so many others.
Xhaka is exactly what we were missing last year. Past his prime? Probably, but we’re not able to get players like him in their prime at the moment.
And if any of the others can give us one good year to get back into the European spots and look like an attractive clubs again… job done.
Lindelof?! Jesus Christ.
To me Ricci worth only E15 to 20 million based on his stats n performance…..definitely overpriced
I agree, he’s overpriced based on stats.
But there’s other things to look at; as an Italian international will he bring in more fans? Will he represent a change of direction? Will it mean more to him to play for Milan? Will he spread the idea of playing for Milan to his national teammates? Will he be the face of the team? Can he translate the crowd for the players on the pitch? Do the scouts expect him to progress? Will he improve around better players?
I don’t know those answers, but that’s why Torino knows he potentially has a higher value than his stats represent.
For the record, that’s another lesson of Moneyball that everyone who uses that as a tarring brush ignores; you can get players in based on statlines but you have to manage them as people. There’s loads of examples in the book or from any sporting team, but in the film Giambi gets jettisoned because of behaviour and David Justice steps up to a leadership role.
