Moretto: Giroud doubt and Zirkzee desire – Milan plot investment in attack

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan will have to make some decisions regarding their attacking department in the coming weeks, and part of that will almost certainly involve an investment in a new striker.

Matteo Moretto writes for SOSFanta that there is another factor which adds a complication to the planning: the fate of Olivier Giroud (10 goals in 17 Serie A games) is still uncertain at the moment.

He is still performing at a high level at the age of 37 but his deal expires at the end of the season add and a renewal with the Rossoneri is not at all certain because Giroud is tempted by a new experience outside Europe, perhaps the MLS.

Milan will most likely need a new striker, and Joshua Zirkzee is also among the names on the list as per Moretto. If you read our site regularly this should not be a surprise given our exclusive a couple of months ago, which stated that Milan are scouting him.

There is a detail that will obviously be considered over the next few months, that is when Milan and Bologna will talk about the future of Alexis Saelemaekers, on loan at the Rossoblu with an option to buy.

The Belgian winger can be bought permanently by Bologna at the end of the season and his ‘evaluation’ could have an impact on the Zirkzee deal, which is likely to cost around €40m at present.

Zirkzee will not be an easy target at all, given there are already many Premier League clubs following him and Bayern Munich are also monitoring him given they have a favourable clause.

Geoffrey Moncada attended Bologna-Genoa on 5 January for other reasons, not for Zirkee, because a lot is already known about him.

Milan will make an attempt, while the Dutch forward’s future is not linked to that of head coach Thiago Motta contrary to what Di Marzio reported. In addition to Zirkzee there are also other profiles monitored by the Rossoneri.

  1. I would keep Giroud for another season at least he can come on as a substitute. I feel like he still can give something to this team and also important in the locker room since we will probably let go of kjaer

  2. Penalties should be removed from a goals talley or otherwise specified.

Readers will otherwise think Giroud is prolific at scoring goals in open play.

      1. I know, could you imagine having an accurate picture of a what a player does? What would you do with yourself?

Look at everyone’s favourite player Jonathan David as the most obvious example.

Absent 10 penalties in 1 seasons he is a middle of the road forward scoring 15 goals a year in France and who had a bad world cup.

A penalty that was won and scored by the same player should not be distinguished, that is reasonable.

You only need to read the schizophrenic articles and fan discussion about Giroud to understand how poorly the perception matches the reality. The perception is created by every dumb article that lauds Giroud scoring a penalty at the age of 38. It’s not relevant to the primary expectation that he will score goals in open play.

What if he played for Atalanta this season? He’d have 4 less goals simply because they got their first penalty in round 20.

  3. Moneyball Moncada strikes again.

This guy is going to kill Milan. I don’t think he knows what he’s doing.

It’s like a kid in a candy shop grabbing everything without a second thought or even looking back over the past few years.

Milan flopped this year because Moneyball Moncada played football manager instead of trying to build a team the right way.

So Zirkzee in, the next forward flop – but who is out so we can make this next “BIG” signing?

    Theo? Tomori? Thiaw? Kalulu?

    MONEYBALL MONCADA!

    1. You are so completely and utterly detached from reality, yet so sure of yourself it’s actually entertaining. Lmfao!!!

You think Moncada is pulling all the strings??? 🤣🤣🤣 hahaha

      1. I’d hardly blame the summer signings for our current position. Firstly if we had kept Tonali, we’d be down a starting midfielder due to his betting scandal. That sale looks nothing short of genius at the moment. Additionally we have a limited manager integrating no less than 10 new signings into the fold, and insane amount of injuries and we are only behind a Juventus who isn’t playing any European football, and Inter who are admittedly the best team in Italy at the moment.

    2. I’d like to see you propose better ideas. So far many of their signings are successes, besides from Chukwueze, who still has a chance to redeem himself.

Your ideas aren’t reflective of anything and you propose nothing.

      1. Also build the team the right way? Oh man. We have a better team now then we did last year. That isn’t even up for debate.

    1. Another smart ass who want to send all our players who he dislikes somewhere for free. Give away your car for free its total sh*t anyways

  4. “Mehdi Taremi has reached a verbal agreement with Inter ahead of a free transfer in the summer, reports suggest.
    .
    .
    .
As reported by Calciomercato.com, Inter have been in close contact with Taremi’s entourage recently and have now verbally agreed to the terms of a deal in the summer, with the striker willing to sign a three-year deal worth around €3m net per season.”

One more player who joins Inter instead and with such low figures. *SMH*
