‘Try bring him to Italy’ – Moretto states it is ‘likely’ Milan make a move for Xhaka

There is a need for midfield depth this summer, and this is without considering the outgoing AC Milan players.

Last season, Paulo Fonseca relied heavily on two men in his midfield, and this was largely the case when Sergio Conceicao arrived too; of course, that duo was Tijjani Reijnders and Youssouf Fofana. Barring them, no one else really got a look in.

The distance between the French-Dutch duo, frankly, is quite staggering, simply because everyone else filled in, rather than being a key part of the team. So, quality is needed to replace Tijji and also to add meaningful depth.

The road to Xhaka

For now, it seems that Luka Modric will be the first to arrive, and Milan won’t stop there. In fact, the Rossoneri are seeking further experience and talent in the form of Granit Xhaka. Reports have suggested that the interest is there, but a ‘top offer’ will be required for him to leave Germany.

Nevertheless, the appreciation from the management makes it seem like a move will at least be attempted, which Matteo Moretto explained on Fabrizio Romano’s YouTube channel, via Milan News.

“In the last few days, the first contacts between Milan and Granit Xhaka. The Rossoneri management really appreciates the profile of the experienced Swiss midfielder, and in the coming weeks it will be probable that there will be a negotiation to try to bring him to Italy, to Milan”.

  1. I understand they want experience but we need young blood as well. Good mixtures of both. There are many talented midfielders in Serie A with peaks just around the corner and could be available for good money.

My two picks would be Bernabe of Parma and Fazzini of Empoli.

  2. My first choice is Rovella. I think a swap of TJ for Rovella would actually improve the team. Would use up most of the TJ money, but could easily be the best midfielder in Serie A for years and a mainstay of the Italian national team. He checks off all the boxes.

  3. What is the situation with Ricci, i thought it was pretty much a done deal once City was talking to Reijnders? I read that perhaps he is not the type of player that Allegri is looking for? We need some signings pretty quick or we will be left with slim pickings in August!
    Forza Milan!
