MN: The most deadly midfielder in Serie A – Reijnders looking for record vs. Empoli

Tijjani Reijnders’ improvement this season has been so evident, and AC Milan are jubilant about his meteoric rise this year, after all, the proof is there for all to see.

With midfielders, the main test is usually that of the eye. It is often a role more easily rated by actually watching games, rather than obsessing over stats. Of course, the latter helps build a rating of the player.

For Reijnders, watching him last season proved that Milan made a fantastic purchase. A tenacious midfielder who showed a lot of completeness, perhaps without the statistical backing though, but this season, that has changed.

Being deployed in a more ‘fixed’ position – though this is debatable since Sergio Conceicao’s arrival – he has found a second lease in a Rossoneri shirt, and the biggest rise in his game has been his goalscoring.

In the Derby della Madonnina, he scored his seventh goal of the season, which is the most of any midfielder in Serie A, as Milan News write, and this weekend, he will be looking for a record.

Throughout his career, goals have somewhat eluded him, especially on a regular basis, and this is why he has a chance to break a personal record this weekend. If he scores against Empoli, he will have scored three games in a row, a career first, and with his recent form, it would not be a shock if he did.

    1. 11 goals for the season so far. He’s well on his way to exceed Seedorfs record for us in one season. Once you realise that you will understand why Seedorf was booed and whistled off the pitch many times for us.

      1. The “record” mentioned here is a personal record of him scoring in three matches in a row for the first time, what are you on about

      2. And what Seedorf record are you talking about, he never scored more than 7 goals in the league and 10 in all competitions for Milan. Rivera had 17 and 20 in all competitions in the 70s and Kaka exceeded those totals on many occasions. You come here spouting invented facts and have the balls to accuse other people of not knowing the history??

        1. Ppl on this site go off I weird tangents. I’m trying to figure out the Seedorf rant. If we look at Zidane his stats are terrible but still considered one of the best in there world ever…just like Seedorf …with boos and all (he always stepped up after those boos btw). As the article says, there’s more to midfielders than stats
