Motta claims we can ‘close the book of football’ if the Rebic incident was a penalty

By Oliver Fisher -

Bologna boss Thiago Motta does not agree with those who say that AC Milan should have had at least one penalty during today’s 1-1 draw.

Bologna took the lead after just 33 seconds through Nicola Sansone as Milan were asleep at the back, but upon replay it seemed as though Fode Ballo-Toure was brought down in the build-up and VAR initially reviewed it before letting the goal stand.

Then there were three penalty shouts for Milan too, with Ante Rebic seemingly stamped on inside the area, then Alexis Saelemaekers tangled legs with Dominguez and finally the ball hit Lucumi’s outstretched arm inside the box.

None were given, and in his post-match press conference Thiago Motta had some rather strong words for those who thought that Milan should have had penalties, with his comments relayed by MilanNews.

In the first half, did you duck too much and concede too much to Milan? Pioli said that there were two clear penalties:…

“Luca Marelli said it too. Let’s not get into this game here, I really don’t like it. Where was Lucumi supposed to put his hand? Otherwise we’ll ask the warehouse workers to make shorts with pockets.

“On Rebic, if such a contact becomes a penalty we can close the book of football and let’s all go home. Today there was a good game, congratulations to the Milan team. They have a good team and they’ve been showing it for a very long time.

“We’ve dropped too deep and we need to improve. In the second We’ve done better over time, we’ve raised the team and we’ve also played better in added time.

“A fair draw, we’re not going into these episodes. Ballo-Touré often played too high up, we can’t go down there with Aebischer. In the second half the game changed, we did better and kept the pitch better. All in all, in the end the draw is fair.”

Was Bologna’s first goal marred by a foul?

“What foul? I’m sorry, I didn’t see it.”

What do you say to the team to prepare for matches against the big teams?

“We think a lot about ourselves, about what to improve. In every game we face there is an adaptation to the team, it is clear that the adaptation depends on the opponent we play. We try to give so much importance to our way of playing and attack. Depending on the opponent, we try to make some adaptations.”

  1. What an idiot you cant stomp another player on his feet and it clearly happened so motta should shut his fly trap.

  2. Well maybe you should see the replay first, dear sir. We witnessed too many penalty fouls much much softer than that.
