Musah stresses importance of scoring first: “We knew a goal would kill them mentally”

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan midfielder Yunus Musah has admitted that scoring the three goals that they did before half-time was enough to kill off Slavia Praha’s spirit and coast into the last 16 of the Europa League.

Milan went into the second leg with a 4-2 advantage from the game at San Siro after what was a dramatic encounter, and the return fixture would end up being no different.

There was some symmetry to how the game went too, as Slavia again got a red card inside 30 minutes for a VAR review on a challenge with studs showing.

Stefano Pioli’s side also scored three goals in the first half again to put things beyond doubt, with Christian Pulisic, Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Rafael Leao all netting.

Jurasek did give the nearly 20,000 home fans something to cheer late on but it would be a mere consolation as Milan won 3-1 on the night and 7-3 on aggregate.

Musah spoke immediately after the game to Milan TV to give his thoughts on what was a job well done in the Czech capital, with his comments relayed by MilanNews.

How important was it to score the first goal?

“We knew a goal would kill them mentally, we were very good in the first half at creating a lot, also thanks to the sending off. We are a good group and we want to move forward on this path, we are ready to do well.”

What was it like against this opponent in such a red hot atmosphere?

“They gave everything, in a fierce stadium that always supported them, but also our fans were great as always, we always want to win for the fans too. Now we’ll find out which team we’ll face, now we’re thinking about the league, but we’re on the right path.”
