It is simply impossible to downplay the magnitude of AC Milan’s trip to face Napoli on Sunday in what could be a season-defining fixture for both sides.
Today’s edition of il Corriere dello Sport (via PianetaMilan) takes a look at the possible scenarios that any result may generate. Napoli and Milan are top on equal points (57), with Inter third at 55 but holding a game in hand.
The direct clashes between the three teams that occupy the top three positions of the ranking is interesting too. The Rossoneri got the better of the Nerazzurri with a draw and a win, while Inter have the head-to-head over Napoli thanks to a win and a draw. Milan lost at San Siro against Spalletti’s side, so they must win to even the scores.
If Milan were to win narrowly against Napoli (by one goal), it would still be Spalletti’s team who are above as they have a five-goal advantage in terms of overall goal difference. Napoli then would move from +30 to +29, with Milan going from +24 to +25.
If Milan win – and they must – Milan goes top with 60 pts. Napoli is stuck at 57pts. Milan would need to drop points again for Napoli to catch up, before head-to-head can come into play.
I expect a clear victory. Pioli should get his tactics right.
