Newcastle 3-1 Milan Primavera: Abate’s side end group with a defeat

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan’s Primavera side suffered defeat in the final game of their UEFA Youth League group stage campaign, losing 3-1 against Newcastle United.

Things started well for Milan who led early on through young midfielder Mattia Liberali, but they conceded two quickfire goals in the second half which gave Newcastle the advantage.

The first goal for the Magpiescame from an error as Bartoccioni was caught in No Man’s Land and Hernes took advantage to put into an empty net, then former Milan youth player Cathal Heffernan scored with a nice right-footed shot from inside the penalty area.

Milan had chances to level at 2-2 with Camarda in particular drawing a fantastic save, but Neave put the game to bed inside the final 20 minutes.

It must be noted that it is an insignificant result for a young Milan side, given they had already secured progress as the top side in the group thanks to their earlier results.
