MN: The numbers behind Milan’s interest in Aston Villa’s Chukwuemeka

By Euan Burns -

AC Milan appear to have a very serious level of interest in Aston Villa midfielder Carney Chukwuemeka and here are the numbers to explain why.

As has been explained by Milan News today, the English midfielder had something of a breakout season for both Aston Villa and the England U19 team this season.

He managed to make 14 appearances for Steven Gerrard’s side across the Premier League and the League Cup in what is a very competitive midfield with a lot of competition. The 18-year-old got one assist.

He impressed the most though when he was at the U19 European Championships with England where he was instrumental in helping the young lions win the tournament.

He played in all five of their matches and in that tournament he provided two assists and scored three times. He was definitely one of the standout players at the tournament which is why he was named in the best eleven of the tournament.

  1. Do Milan believe in signing Italians?

Furthermore, Milan NEED Italians to fill our quota and we only have 3. We need 4.

    1. It doesn’t need to be Italian, as long as he spent 3 seasons at Italy before passing the limit of U21 age group, he will become association homegrown. Just like Bennacer who ended up as homegrown because he spent 2 season at Empilo and 1 season at Milan while still available for U21.

Based on the birth year, this season Chukwuemeka is U19, next season U20, next 2 season U21. So if Milan sign him this season and keep him for 3 years, not only he will become association homegrown, he will also be considered as academy product.

Milan is currently doing it on Lazetic.

    2. And we have 4, not just 3:

      Association homegrown:
      Tonali
      Florenzi
      Mirante
      Bennacer

It is the academy product that we only have 3:
      Gabbia
      Calabria
      Pobega

      1. OMG…I miscounted… Bennacer was 20 years old based on birth year when he first arrive in Italy… he is not homegrown… which means Milan is currently over the homegrown limit by 4…
