Official: AC Milan submit Champions League squad – the inclusions and exclusions

By Ben Dixon -

AC Milan have made a decision about who has been included and perhaps more importantly excluded from their Champions League squad.

Now that the mercato has closed, the next big thing is working out which players will feature in the Champions League this season, or at least in the opening set of fixtures, and due to registration rules, Milan will have to exclude one player from their squad.

As UEFA rules state, there are 25 slots open for the squads, but eight players must be homegrown, with four of those being trained in the club. Yesterday, a report suggested that the Rossoneri would leave two slots open in their ‘List A’ squad, meaning two spots are open for club-trained players.

Currently, 18 players could fit in the foreign section of the ‘A list’, and there are only 17 slots, meaning a first-team player will be forced to miss out. Below is the official Champions League list of Milan presented to UEFA, as per MilanNews and other sources:

List A

2 Davide Calabria
4 Ismael Bennacer
7 Alvaro Morata
8 Rubén Loftus-Cheek
10 Rafael Leao
11 Christian Pulisic
14 Tijjani Reijnders
16 Mike Maignan
17 Noah Okafor
19 Theo Hernandez
21 Samuel Chukwueze
22 Emerson Royal
23 Fikayo Tomori
24 Alessandro Florenzi
28 Malick Thiaw
29 Youssouf Fofana
31 Strahinja Pavlovic
42 Filippo Terracciano
46 Matteo Gabbia
57 Marco Sportiello
80 Yunus Musah
90 Tammy Abraham

List B

Adam Bakoune, Davide Bartesaghi, Andrea Bozzolan, Francesco Camarda, Andrei Coubis, Hugo Cuenca, Victor Eletu, Mattia Liberali, Vittorio Magni, Mattia Malaspina, Lapo Nava, Dorian Paloschi, Diego Sia, Dariusz Stalmach, Lorenzo Torriani, Chaka Traoré, Kevin Zeroli.

The main headline is the omission of Luka Jovic who scored nine goals across all competitions last season, while Alex Jimenez and Silvano Vos – two stars of Milan Futuro – do not meet the List B requirements as they have not been here for long enough.

  1. I honestly can’t comprehend the stupidity and very unprofessional behaviour of our management, they should always consider tailoring our transfers to suit our needs to the maximum, we could have signed more Italians, Chiesa could have come, not only is he a good player, but hands down he is better than the wingers we have, and his presence would have helped in the UCL list, we could not complete our homegrown quota, which prevented us from naming someone like Jovic, even if we would exclude anyone, Chukuzewe should have been the one, Jovic is better, has more experience, and has won it before, we have too many foreign players, that’s why we have no leadership, pls can someone explain to me why we did not get Belanova instead of Emerson, honestly more competent heads are needed in our management.

    1. I said the same thing all mercato. There are several good right back options here in Italy who wouldnt take up a spot on the A-list. Bellanova being the obvious first choice. You got to be blind not to see his quality.

      1. Yeah Bellanova would be a great option, there are others also.
Kalulu could have been an excellent option too.

What planet are we on when we waste 20m on a dud like Emerson

    2. Transfermarkt values Bellanova at €15M, so we probably could have gotten him for LESS money than we paid for Emerson!

Even Cardinale should understand that language.

    3. Is now I know that you don’t know what football is all about,,, someone that lofticheck find it difficult to give him ball ,,,, when polisic is playing 8 during pre season what is Chukwueze performance,,, go and rewatch the last match,,, is not person that gave a direct pass to a player in front of the post and he miss the chance,,, he will die because usman Yusuf is an Ac Milan fan ,, you never deh serious,,,

  2. I dont understand why Fonseca doesnt try Bartesaghi as left back? Hes left footed with a good passing foot and very good defensively (plays cb alot).

With Jimenez excluded from the A-list we only got a right footed shaky Terracciano as backup on LB. Makes zero sense not to try a hungry Bartesaghi who is home grown and wouldnt take a spot on any A-lists?

  3. Massive failure of the transfer summer to have Jovic sign and then not be able to be included in the squad, to have no left-footed backup for Hernandez and to have four right-backs on List A.

That said, should have a good enough squad to match our seeding…… if Hernandez becomes / stays fit

  4. Not surprise, because we dont have players more. Jovic next time will can be replace with Abraham, if he not play good or some have injury.

  5. i just dont understand signing emerson has to be the worst desicion ever abraham has had a few good season he can get back emerson has never had any wolrd class season and im not judging by goals and assist generally he is a bad player and fonseca should get sacked he was “crazy in abraham” he wanted emerson instead of bellanova and still cant get result

  6. This Fonseca guy will not be a coach of ACM after incoming Liverpool and Inter humiliation at the end of this month.
