Official: AC Milan vs. Torino starting XIs – Thiaw, Saelemaekers in and Leao returns

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan head coach Stefano Pioli has made four changes to his starting line-up for the game to face Torino compared to the one that lost to Inter.

Pioli has chosen to slightly tweak the 3-5-2 formation that he used against the Nerazzurri last weekend and move to a 3-4-3 system, with a double pivot instead of a midfield three and a trio of forwards instead.

Ciprian Tatarusanu will be in goal with Malick Thiaw coming in for Matteo Gabbia in a three-man defence which will also features Simon Kjaer and Pierre Kalulu.

Alexis Saelemaekers and Theo Hernandez have been named as the right and left wing-backs, with captain Davide Calabria therefore dropping to the bench.

Rade Krunic and Sandro Tonali will be the midfield double pivot with Ismael Bennacer still injured, and the front three sees Brahim Diaz come in accompanied by Rafael Leao on the other flank and Olivier Giroud up front.

Official Milan XI (3-4-3): Tatarusanu; Thiaw, Kjaer, Kalulu; Saelemaekers, Tonali, Krunic, Theo Hernandez; Diaz, Giroud, Leao.

Bench: Mirante, Vasquez, Calabria, Gabbia, Ballo-Touré, Bakayoko, Pobega, Vranckx, Adli, De Ketelaere, Messias, Ibrahimovic, Rebic, Origi.

Official Torino XI (3-4-2-1):Milinkovic-Savic; Djidji, Schuurs, Buongiorno; Singo, Adopo, Gineitis, Rodriguez; Miranchuk, Vlasic; Sanabria.

Bench: Fiorenza, Gemello, Bayeye, Gravillon, Aina, Vojovoda, Ilic, Vieira, Linetty, Karamoh, Radonjic, Seck.

    1. To be honest I think CDK needs to be in a ST position if we look back to his time at Brugge, ideally a 2 striker formation would work the best for him especially with a strong striker like Giroud or ibra as he’d drop slightly back into a false nine role to support further

  1. You guys do realize the players in the lineup can also be a 4-2-3-1 right? There’s nothing that stops them from playing like that

      1. What’s the problem? It could very well be the intention is to shift between 3-4-1-2 and 4-2-3-1 as the situation dictates. Maybe they will switch at half time. Maybe even between offensive and defensive phases. I like the flexibility. The side can feel out the game and if Torino seems aggressive they can stay in the 3-4-1-2 as they try to gain control.

        1. Point is formation doesn’t matter. The interpretation of movements is more important. We have played with 3 at the back while attacking waaaaay before our last two games. It’s just been disguised. Pioli is smart in letting people believe there’s a formation change. 3 at the back is also 5 at the back. And we needed the extra help in defence recently

  2. Only took Giroud 14 secs to give away his first ball this evening and there have been at least 10 since – get him off – adds absolutely nothing – zero

  3. what a bad game, many lost passes..saele cant get past an opponent, krunic being krunic as usual, giroud meh, diaz getting bullied as always
