Official: Giroud renews Milan contract after helping club into UCL semi-final

Olivier Giroud has renewed his contract with AC Milan just a day after helping the club get into the Champions League semi-finals, according to the club.

As has been officially announced by AC Milan on their website, the French striker has put pen to paper on a new contract. It is expected that the contract will keep him with the Rossoneri until 2024 and he will earn €3.5m net for the next season.

There has been much speculation over whether he would extend his contract and whilst it seemed that both he and the club wanted the same thing, an announcement has come later than many expected.

Wednesday’s announcement comes a day after Giroud scored in the Champions League quarter-final second leg against Napoli, a goal that put Stefano Pioli’s team in full control of the tie which they went on to win.

Giroud has made 76 appearances for the club since joining in the summer of 2021 and he has scored 27 times.

  1. The way our front line depends on 36 years old Giroud is a bit crazy. Just look when Origi came in, we looked like an entirely different team. Hopefully next season this issue will be solved.

  2. Well deserved.
His signing last year was/is as important as Zlatans comeback in late 2019. Great example on and off the field. Always works hard during games and steps up when needed the most. His 2 goals out of nothing vs Inter last year changed the whole season and were the main reason Milan won the title. After that game inter psychologically crumbled.
Hopefully stays here for few more years.
But all that said, he cannot be our main starter at striker next season. Signing a younger, more mobile striker with some speed is a must this summer.

  3. Good. We still need Giroud experiences especially for big matches.

But next season Milan still need one new striker who can hold the ball, good aerial duel, and better finishing. No more Origi or Rebic who’s wasted plenty of chances.

  4. Thank you Giroud.
But next season milan still need a main striker.
Milan can’t rely on Giroud week in and week out.
Giroud can do what Ibra has done in his 1st season.
