Official: PSG vs. AC Milan starting XIs – four changes from Juventus loss

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan head coach Stefano Pioli has made changes in three departments for tonight’s match against Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League.

Mike Maignan takes back his spot in goal after being suspended against Juventus while Theo Hernandez comes into the back four again. The defence is completed by Pierre Kalulu, Fikayo Tomori and Malick Thiaw.

The midfield three sees Rade Krunic return to his place between Yunus Musah and Tijjani Reijnders, while the front three is formed by Christian Pulisic, Olivier Giroud and Rafael Leao.

Milan are without a number of options they would prefer to be able to call upon like Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Noah Okafor and Samuel Chukwueze.

Official Milan XI (4-3-3): Maignan; Kalulu, Tomori, Thiaw, T. Hernandez; Reijnders, Krunic, Musah; Pulisic, Giroud, Leao.

Bench: Mirante; Kjaer, Florenzi, Bartesaghi, Calabria, Adli, Pobega; Jovic, Chaka Traore.

Official PSG XI (4-3-3): Donnarumma; Hakimi, Marquinhos, Skriniar, Hernandez; Zaire-Emery, Ugarte, Vitinha; Dembele, Kolo Muani, Mbappé.

Bench: Lettelier, Tenas, Ruiz, Ramos, Danilo, Lee, Mukiele, Soler, Barcola.

  1. Well, not confident in this one, still October and already squad depth is being tested somewhat. Just hope if it doesn’t go to plan then the comments aren’t the usual complete overreaction.

For anyone who forgets, PSG payroll is €290m and Milan’s is €85m, so adjust expectations accordingly. Any sort of result from this one is a bonus.

    1. Oh don’t worry, they’ll lose their sh*t as usual if we lose. I’m not confident either – we’re in the group of death and injuries again are plaguing the team. I watched a doc on Milan the other night and when it first started Milan Lab was cutting edge – the envy of every club in Serie A. Now look at us.

    1. Italian market is not as great as the French market. You can’t really buy an Italian of the same quality in the same price range as what we got this season.

  2. Adli has to score a hat trick every game while making all goal saving tackles each time around with zero fouls and yellow cards for him to possibly be considered in the starting XI 🤦‍♂️
If Pioli is going the defensive route first then attack later, then just put in Pobega while you’re are it smh

    1. It’s obvious Pioli is thinking defensively as usual. I won’t be excited about this game to be honest. If Newcastle can beat PSG, so can Milan; but does Pioli believe this?

      1. There’s more than one way to skin a cat my friend. Maybe Pioli is learning from the lesson Allegri taught him on Sunday, and he’ll set up the team to play deep so that we can hit them on the counter with Leao and Puli. This would have been a great game to play Okafor at CF. Unfortunately, no matter who we sign, we always have 4-5 players on the treatment table.

      2. Yea exactly. The attitut counts alot in these encounters. But to be fair, Newcastle at home they’ve been really really good. I think we’ll have a harder time there than at PSG. PSG hasn’t had that pedigree we have still. Im Still hoping for the best though

    1. Lol 😂😂😂. Normally I’d say this is true Vero and ofc I will support all players when they take the field but gotta admit Adli been playing ball and should have started if we really wanted progressive football. With Krunic we know we’ll be more pragmatic. Not necessarily a bad thing but it’s clear what the approach is

  3. Of course Krunic, fresh off an injury and who looked like the worst player on the pitch against Juventus gets the start over Adli who has been playing well. Pioli’s love affair with Krunic will cost him his job. And it should.
Playing for another 0-0 draw, if we are lucky.

  4. Hopefully we will be able to get a good result but i’m a bit worried tonight even though psg isnt exactly the same team of previous years they are still a force to be reckonned with. I’ll take a draw tonight and a win in the reverse fixture.

    1. The ultras already declared war, man. Did you see the chants against $umma? He deserves it, though. But I still think we have a chance to get a result against them.

      1. all teams in this group can potentially beat eachother but we are nevetheless underdogs in this match but lets hope for the best. No i hadnt seen that 😀 im looking much more forward though to see a full san siro harassing him throughout a full match that might become a real spectacle to behold.

        1. Honestly they are poor this season. 3rd in French league and hammered by Newcastle. I would like to see our players and fans showing more confidence.
Football is psychological, they should be afraid of us (semi finals last year)

          1. SJF i generally always believe in the team and supports it regardless of how we play but what i feel initially about a game isnt the same as how the team itself should approach it so psychologial speaking it doesnt mean squat here unless you are at the stadium playing the match. I do think we have done well up untill now though but unfortunately 0-1 down now.

  5. Kalulu left Tomori for dead there on that goal. He was too slow, by the time he realized what was happening that’s when he started to sprint back. His main tasks was to control MBappe so by the time the ball reac the CBs they can clear. Tomori did the best the could, no fault there, MBappe is a beast.
Also Reinjders….smh. lemme not say anything more. Game is not over yet and we’ve had chances

  6. “Juve have fast attackers and they play counter attack football”
Pioli : let’s play a high line against juve.

“Playing psg in their home, they’re gonna have more possession, and they’re gonna coming at us full throttle. We need to utilize our speedsters and play a counter attack football against psg”
    Pioli : let’s play a 40yo giroud.

  7. Absolutely awful first half by Millan. The game against Juve didn’t help with energy levels, but this is just rediculous.
    Theo does nothing anymore.
    Thiaw looks rattled.
    Reijnders and Musah invisible.
    Pulisic, still in America.
    Giroud is Giroud
    Leao

Our “great transfer window” looks a sham.
Id take Tonali, Kessie and Bennacer any day.
This is a poor psg team who keep giving the ball away, Milan are just atrocious

    1. Dude you are like girl and overreacting.

Psg is team double time more expensive than Milan, and later, Psg give salary to Mbappe equal how much Milan give to to all players. Psg give them 290 million that’s 4 times Milan salaries. So it is like you compare Milan to Frosinone.

    1. Calabria literally told them to pay attention before that goal. I hope ppl will come down as harsh on Musah for Pulling up his socks as they do Krunic for basically breathing

  8. The usual nonsense from the peanut gallery. Kalulu and their new star boy Reinjders at fault for the goal.. somehow it’s Krunic fault haha 😂😂

  9. This PSG team is d team Newcastle a newcomer beat mercilessly few weeks ago. Clearly there is something we are not doing right

  10. Don’t change anything, tactics, subs, leave 37 old Giroud to die on the pitch, leave the Krunic the Son on for the whole game, Genius.

We’re out at the group stages, it’s time to reset, fire Piolo, get a good coach and spend the cash on real quality. Despite enormous amounts of luck going our way we have failed at every real test.

  11. All Acmilan fans please I’m not happy saying this Pioli has succeeded in ruining Acmilan infact me the fans I’m disappointed I said this tomori and thiaw are waste I prefer pellegraino and Kjaer I even said that Acmilan cannot play 4-3-3 I said this I even urge that we should play the 4-2-3-1 but this stupid Pioli refused now Acmilan is suffering in the hands of PSG even the two goals scored against us this mistake came from tomori to show that tomori and thiaw they are not a good defenders at all

  12. The entire midfield is awful today. We don’t have a proper regista in who can pass forward and/or help the D. And still no subs to change it up.

    Pioli out!

  13. Everyone blame Krunic yet our 110 million flashy new team has 0 shots on target. I bet last season team would give this PSG side harder time.

  14. i hope you all pioli, krunic and giroud fanboy are enjoying the show, i decided to keep mute after preseason—- been saying it , how can a failure of a coach get the best out of a tam when a 37 year old giroud and a krunic becomes your trusted players….besides this is a man that will always loose against big teams yet keeps giving the same excuse….now enjoying yourself all pioli fans…oh how the mighty acmilan is rotten in the hand of this scam of a manager

  15. I read an article that says he gather the team together during the stadium tour and gave a rousing motivating speech!😂🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 what? is this all what your motivational speech can motivate your team to produce? i feel so sorry watching this team….insipid, no plan, no plan b, no creativity, nothing…what a shame

        1. no need to apologize but he is out with muzzle fatigue this week but think he will be back for the napoli match on sunday but its also the reason why chaka traore was called up instead.

  16. I think its time to get Leao out of this team. He is too lazy to be considered a top player. Olivier Giroud has to stop starting for us.

  17. I’m disappointed with Pioli stefano for believing in tomori and thiaw is the greatest mistake even playing the 4-3-3 is a disappointment even kalulu, musah, pulisic, Hernandez, leao, maignan rejnder, tried well but Pioli must change this formation of Acmilan will qualify from this group to prevent further disaster, now Pioli have learnt is lesson Pioli should go back to the 4-2-3-1 and use Kjaer, pellegraino or kalulu in the 5then Kjaer in the 6 finished

  18. You guys have not seen anything yet…note this day down and the record of Milan against the top teams both in seri-A and champions league…now you will see the reasons why we might not make the top 4… remember we are in the champions league because of Juventus point deduction…we are supposed to be in the Europa league….now Maldini will be smiling

    1. Juventus was only in consideration for those points because they fiddeled with their accountys otherwise they wouldnt have been able to buy other players like vlahovic and chiesa so please shut up because their team would have been weakened had they not chjeated to begin with.
