Romano: Milan forward to join RB Leipzig in deal potentially worth €28m – the details

The Noah Okafor to RB Leipzig negotiations did seem to be moving quickly, and the forward is now expected to travel for a medical today.

Okafor’s name had popped up in various reports heading into the January window as someone that the Milan management might look to move on in order to free funds and a spot in the squad for a new forward signing.

It quickly became apparently that the Bundesliga was a potential destination for him, and that Leipzig were the leading candidates to land him with discussions ongoing regarding the formula and figures of the deal.

Now, Fabrizio Romano is reporting that Milan and Leipzig ‘have agreed on a loan deal’ for the Swiss forward which actually includes an option to buy which is substantially higher than what was initially reported.

The German club will cover Okafor’s full salary and they will have the option – not an obligation – to buy him in the summer for ‘around €25/28m based on several factors’. Travel and medical are scheduled for today, the journalist adds.

Okafor developed a knack for contributing with big goals off the bench but ultimately rarely started for Milan. In his 18 months at the club he has scored seven goals and added five assists in 52 appearances.

    1. It is okay. Milan is crating spaces for new arrivals.

All our players who are currently on loan are going to be amortised for this season, so their value in the books are going to be less, than in start of season.
Which means, in summer 2025 Milan can sell them for lower price than previous year, and still capital gain. This is how you create space for new arrivals and you don’t loose more money.
Milan still can send them on loan next year again just need to extend contract for 1 more year. This is how youngsters can have more games played and raised their value.
Some players like Lazetic are never going to succeed bit that’s th3 risk of buying youngsters.

      1. Even though what you postulated is practicable in business, but in football or sports in general it is not always applicable.
Amortisation and current value in the books does not equate to the current market value.

Current market value is determined by market forces of demand and supply. How much a club is willing to pay for a player is directly in most often times to the current ability of the player. That is why amortisation was defiled by Man U who bought Leny Yoro for 60m despite being in the last year of his contract. A player who on the books of Lille and amortisation considered would not have been worth more than 15m. He was placed on a salary I think around 10m compared to his previous salary below 2m.

This completely defiles amortisation in context, while mortisation may determine the carrying value of many assets (especially assets that can be depreciated), the forces of demand and supply will determine the carrying value of other assets, especially in sports.

    2. They will.
He’s an excellent player who wasn’t handled well by Pioli and Fonseca.
But the Redbull system will get him back in for in no time.
I think we could’ve utilized him better, but if we end up getting double what we paid for him, then it’s still good business.
      Wish him all the best.

  1. If we sell him for 25M that would be a really great move based on the profits , we should try to make more of those instead of being soft and letting go CDK for peanuts

  2. The numbers don’t make sense. 15 mio. would have been realistic. If the 25 mio. clause is true, he will be 100% with us again in July.

  3. Options never seem to be honoured as per the contract anyway (we’re as guilty as anyone) so even if he flies they’ll be back saying “yeah we’ll have him but not for 25 and we’d like to loan him for another year first”.

Good luck to him, there’s a useful player in there, just probably not for a top team.

  4. Having his salary covered by Leipzig is not a bad move at all to be honest and selling him for 25M€ will be huge.
But honestly I doubt Leipzig or any club will be willing to pay 25M€ for him, if they do, great considering we ourselves only got him for 14M€ and that this season he has been subpar to say the least.

  5. Its definitely better than the 10ml I expected us to be starting from. A figure of 25 is unrealistic but its tge type of numbers we should be putting on our players the same way Atalanta or any Prem team do. Even if he goes for 15 it’ll still be decent business and a small gain for a fringe player. Teams come sniffing around Milan like we’re tge bargain basement so nice to see for a change

  6. They wont pay 25m for him not unless he has a sensational half season. They are paying his wages and if he does well they may not pay 25m but other clubs could pay more than 14m we paid ensuring we make a profit. There is always a chance he might come back revitalized like how Salamaekers is now so its a smart move with many upsides.

  7. Some just can’t say anything positive. If he preforms great he won’t be taken for nothing, if he’s meh there’s a healthy amount of room for negotiation. Solid deal.
