AC Milan have made three moves in the defence this summer. However, Franco Ordine believes that it is not enough.
This summer seems to have been quite polarising for some. In some departments, it is understandable. As a whole, it makes sense. Milan, ultimately, are still without a striker, and there is a worry that ideas have been missed.

However, the players who have arrived have generally been viewed quite well; Ardon Jashari and Samuele Ricci were long-time targets brought to the club successfully. However, there are questions about the amount spent.
Questions that need answering
There also appears to be some doubts about the completion of some areas, with Ordine stating that the defence is lacking. Reports this morning suggest that Massimiliano Allegri wants another defender. Something which the journalist would probably agree with.
His views on the situation were written into an editorial piece for MilanNews earlier today.
“Defensively, things don’t add up: without Walker, Theo Hernandez, Emerson Royal, and now Thiaw, and with De Winter, plus Estupinan, Athekame, and perhaps Okoli, there hasn’t been any progress. It’s true: Allegri sees Bartesaghi’s qualities as a potential surprise in that role as Theo’s replacement, but he still has a lot of progress to make before he deserves a starting spot at AC Milan.

“Then there’s the Jimenez thorn in his side: he showed up late for training three times, and Allegri sent him back to AC Milan in the future. Many call him, who knows why, the…Theo effect. Try giving him a watch that works!!!!!!!!!”

Lucumi will balance the 3men midfield… on the left it’s Pavlovic while on the right there will be healthy competition between deWinter and Tomori
btw Leoni just joined Liverpool for only 31M… not 40M
I read €35M. Milan likely already knew he was going to Liverpool so even if he was their preference it was irrelevant. Of course we will likely never know.
31M€ seems to be correct. Milan probably could have promised more first team game time, so that could have been a factor, and Allegri as well. But, as you’ve said, we’ll never know.
And Liverpool might have been Leoni’s preference as well.
This just shows you Milan never even tried.
liverpool have 31M that they can afford to risk,
we dont…period, thats y we didnt go for him…
caz he has less than half a season of experience in seria A,….and he’s valued at +35M
Inter also risked with Bastoni and won… just saying that money-ball isn’t the solution to all of our problems…
18yo that could have potentially have been with us for 10+ years is worth, than spending twice on 20M defenders…
The price will be higher if the clubs are in the same league.
With limited number of matches so far, he is a gamble.
31 + 4 mln bonuses.
Can’t believe you guys are listening to Ordines crap, we have a strong extremely balanced midfield that automatically sorts the defence out as now you can not run through our midfield and isolate our defenders, these lazy journalists spout rubbish just to get clicks
Other than Thiaw, it was addition by subtraction.
– Hernandez was a clubhouse cancer. his defensive breakdowns let to more than a half dozen goals.
-Walker’s best days are behind him.
– As Malik said above, job #1 was to strengthen the midfield … control the midfield, you can take pressure off the defense.
Milan gave up 43 goals last year.
I bet they give up ~35 this year.
That is what I’ve been thinking. Defence didn’t get much better.
Agreed. Tomori Pavlovic Gabbia and De Winter are hardly world class CB’s….LOTS to prove esp from Pav and De Winter (both still a bit raw) and Tomori (consistency)
Espt – needs to stay healthy and prove he can defend and Aketame is very young and unproven in the league.
So nothing is guaranteed and we have to hope that ALL the defenders develop – which usually never happens all at once.
I am only positive because of Allegri. But I really hoped we’d get Leoni and a veteran with over 200 games in Serie A.
Djimsiti. Who is 32. My preferred pick for leadership.
Yes but Atalanta won’t sell him last day. They should have already done that deal. He has an expiring contract but they might just keep him and let him go for free next season. It is not like Milan would offer big money.
Unless we give them someone.
Not really sure there is anyone to take, unless they want Bennacer and Adli. But I’ve just heard about Stanisic interest. Now that would be a good signing. In my opinion way better than Winter? Both as CD and RB.
Djimsiti. We need a Serie A proven leader. He is 32, but has at least 3-4 seasons left in him I think.
We can’t play 3 in the back with 4 CBs on the team
The problem wasn’t mainly the defence. It was the midfield leaving huge gaps an d pulling everyone out of position. The midfield seems to have been solved and that will greatly help the defence out.
First time about hearing Jimenez being late three times. What’s that about??
Apparently a lot of the players during the 2024/25 season under Fonesca and Sergio had bad attitudes.
For example being late to training and being lazy.
The players were allegedly Theo Hernandez, Emerson Royal, Alex Jimenez, Ismael Bennacer, Joao Felix and Tammy Abraham
This right here. Midfield has been addressed. That will affect the defensive side of Milan. Plus no Theo not playing defense. We have a good coach. We are better at defense.
“Allegri sent him back to AC Milan in the future”, should be sent him back to Futuro?
Yes
He absolutely right.
That’s why we are linked with signing another defender. If we want a sure thing Djimsiti from Atalanta who is a leader in the back line. We need to find a leader. Not just a young defender.
Sigh …
Of course the defense got better. We now have a coach who – get this – coaches defense!
We have a midfield well stocked with players to protect that better-coached defense.
We clearly were thinking both 3 and 4 man back lines and are now gravitating towards a 3 man.
He names Walker and Emerson as not improved upon. The fact that they are not here is an improvement. Did he watch the games.
Good Theo we did not replace and that is a shame. Bad Theo of the last year (and really he was tracking that way the year before) is the same as Walker/Emerson = Addition by subtraction.
Could Dixon maybe read what was written before publishing another faux controversy piece … “and Allegri sent him back to AC Milan in the future?” I mean clearly that should be edited to AC Milan Futuro.
Ben Dixon is rarely in touch with reality. And his article here is completely off the mark.
Agree with all your points.
Including the clear lack of effort by ‘author’.
All they do is scrape Italian content and probably AI translate it.
Milan should have at least try for an experience defender, you can’t win serie a without proven defensive players.I would gladly offer Ramos and Thiago Silver one year contract
I know everyone is upset about Leoni but what Milan needs is an experienced defender, like a Simon Kjaer purchase. That’s the missing link back there
Djimsiti 😉
Re “and Allegri sent him back to AC Milan in the future”
Nice google translate on that one!
🤣😂
Milan Futuro maybe…
Need a veteran CB.
I’ve just read of Stanisic interest and I don’t get why didn’t we go for him instead of De Winter.
Ok, Bayern instantly rejected that. Now I know why.
LOL. You thought Stanisic was going to leave? My suggestion of Djimsiti actually has a chance.
Come of the point…dont write too much bullshit….tell me, when its important…and dont tell me the story of three different kinds of way..♥️✌🏾
It’s like Groundhog Day.
Every summer they sign too many players and people are blown away – shocked I tells ya – when players struggle with this much turnover.
How are people complaining about a striker when those same people were getting all excited only a few short months ago about Giménez?
The lack of short term memory is worrying.
The only real change this summer is the club has a proper coach. But second stints rarely, if ever, work out.
My prediction this season is that the club will finish 4th. The question for me will be can I bring myself to go back to using we/us/our.
If it was up to you, Calabria would be stuck here on a ten year contract. Yet your favorite all time RB since Maldini can’t even find a club. Maybe one in Greece will take him. No Clubs in Italy want him.
They reinforced correctly this summer and signing the quality. Gimenez is clearly staying. But going into a campaign with one actual CF isn’t it.
You have no clue what you’re talking about. Once again. Just like your glowing assessment of Calabria. A player who hasn’t performed in 4 years.
If you were capable of a modicum of critical thinking you’d be questioning how exactly a Scudetto winning RB (and the thousands of other elite athletes) are being traded around seemingly with no direction this and every summer.
At least show some consistency when the current mob of players are struggling, try and remember your glowing assessment now.
But I presume like the rest you’ll sooner turn on those very same players the minute they don’t reach your completely unrealistic, computer game expectations.
But it just sums up… you’re still talking about Calabria as if some past glory made up for his painful collapse in form and playing ability.
Calabria was slower than a steam engine and as slow someone’s great grandma.
The new players we have are proper reinforcements and we have a proper coach. That’s the difference. You just don’t seem to get it. You will never get it.
And where was Calabria being traded around? His contract expired. Now he can’t even get a contract for some low ranked Greek team. That’s how bad he is right now.
You’re stuck in the past. The only reason we even won that Scudetto in the past was because of major changes.
We were linked a leader, and have that now in Modric. Ricci and Jashari are both nice players too.
Whoever wrote this article needs some green tea
😂
Cant waite until sunday..forza milan…
Maldini’s Heir is a total clown. The only reason we won the last Scudetto was because of major changes in the team. This dude is still blabbering about Calabria who is close to retiring at the age of 28.
Main reason why we won was Covid. The whole season was random
Elsewhere, Emerson was booed out of the game where he was substituted after 45 minutes. Still cannot believe these clowns went and spend 15 millions on him. And to think Tottenham were playing hardball with us. Epic from them. Who knows what kind of bums we’d be seeing this season if Moncada and Furlani would stay in charge of signings.
Maresca yesterday: ” “Fofana played 45 mins in middle of the three, one of the worst halves from us… Badiashile… Conference League final, first half, losing 1-0. We changed him with Levi and won 4-1. It’s not the same. The one in the middle is so, so, so important”.
The one in the middle, that is the key now. We desperately need a leader that is strong positionally and strong in duels there. Gabbia should be second choice.
Kiwor is available get him ASAP .
