GdS: Origi day is finally coming – the reason for the delay

By Oliver Fisher -

The day has felt like an eternity in coming but more confirmations have arrived stating that Divock Origi will be AC Milan’s first signing of the summer.

La Gazzetta dello Sport (via TMW) writes that we must wait a few more days and then it will finally be time for Origi to announce himself as a new Milan player. The striker is currently completing his recovery from an injury that forced him to miss the season finale at Liverpool but he will soon be able to undergo the medical examinations and sign his contract.

Some time in the next few days the Belgian will complete the ‘first day’ including the medical, sports fitness test and the signing of the contract at Casa Milan and then will officially introduce himself to the Milan fans.

The report adds that Origi will be the only arrival in the role of centre-forward in the summer market which says a lot about the confidence Paolo Maldini and Ricky Massara have in the 26-year-old.

The signing of Origi should arrive after the renewal of Maldini and Massara. He was the victim of a muscle problem that forced him to miss two months, as well as 13 games, with Liverpool but the feeling is that in July Origi will be able to present himself at Milanello back at 100%.

  1. Oh my God such an eternity I just can’t wait for him omg!!! Such a star, such a legend oh my!!!……

Origi is solid, that’s it. He’s not a top striker don’t kid yourselves.

So dumb we’re not also getting Belotti. Free… just get both, it’s such a small risk.

    1. Relax bro, lukaku before joining inter was not regarded as anything special either but what happened? Have some hope

      1. Im not saying that origi wont be a success for us but to say lukako wasnt regarded as anything special before joining inter is a rather ridiculous statement as he was already deemed a huge talent when playing for anderlect and before joining inter he had already scored 170 goals combined whereas origi has scored 66 goals combined over various tournaments. Quite the difference in outcome.

  2. You’ve got to consider though firstly Lukaku was nothing great at UTD, secondly Origi is majority of the time on the bench yet still manages to have such an impact in big games, like his brace against Barcelona in the semi final of the UCL

    1. At man utd he played 96 games and scored 42 goals and even if utd fans propably wasnt happy about that goal tally its pretty much also down to what they paid and on top of that utd has pretty much been in disarray since fergusson retired. lukako has been considered a player of great talent and a top player throughout his career. Sure origi has scored some really important goals i wont deny that but the two players are not really comparable and their valuation is also completely different even though lukako is older.

I get that origi has played less but he has also played in a far better team than lukako if we look at his time at everton and udt who isnt really comparable to liverpool in recent years.

In the end though as i already said i wouldnt be surprised if he turns out as a success for us.

        1. Thanks Gigi and likewise to you as well. As you i do hope that the fact that he propably will play a lot more minutes with us will also affect the ammount of goals he ends up scoring with us. Anyways as he comes for free i rather like this move as long as it doesnt stand in the way of other aquisitions arriving up front.

          1. I agree but it seemingly has stood in the way. So far reports say we’re not getting anyone else. We missed the boat on Nunez but either way can’t compete at that price. At this point I would also get Belotti. Guaranteed goals in Serie A to share time with Origi.

          2. Zoro Caloro, Nunez was always a castle in the sky for some fans but it was at least clear to me that it was bound to not happen at this point of his career. For me the first choice target should and luckily seems to be de ketelaere for the cam role and then if we have enough cash to splash on another semi expensive player i would get berradi for the right wing. Belotti is a no brainer for me and id deffently add him as well but unfortunately at this point i doubt its in the plans of the management but honestly speaking he would also be my pick ahead of origi so im pretty biased on that front.

    2. Wait stop… are you saying Origi is better than Lukaku?? Come on man. Lukaku is more streaky for sure but when he’s on he’s unstoppable. However when he’s off he’s really off. Look, Origi is fine but people thinking he’s going to set the world alight are ridiculous.
