Watch: Orsolini appeal and a handball – Pairetto’s two big calls during Bologna-Milan

By Oliver Fisher -

There were a couple of decisions from referee Luca Pairetto and the VAR team that have generated discussion after AC Milan’s 2-0 win over Bologna.

The first came in the 51st minute when Riccardo Orsolini asked for a penalty after going down under the challenge of Fikayo Tomori. Play was waved on and while there was contact, ‘Errori Arbitrali’ believe that it was initiated more by the Bologna winger.

The other incident is much more bizarre. When Rafael Leao broke late in the game and hit the post after an excellent cut back onto his left foot, most just presumed the Portuguese winger to be unlucky.

However, on replay, it appears that the sliding arm of the Bologna defender makes contact with the ball and deviates it from the trajectory of going in.

  1. The Tomori challenge watching live and on replay, it looked pretty clearly like the Bologna player went hard into him and either just was overpowered or went down to try to draw the penalty. I’ve seen that given a penalty before but also not given a penalty just as often.

Leao’s shot, I missed it live and I can’t say for sure in the poor-quality videos I see.

  2. They were a little unlucky with the Orsolini one but mainly because his dive was so terrible, throwing both knees to the floor. I don’t think it should have been.

Leao one should never be a penalty. Even aside from the defender having no control over the position of his arm there and it clearly being ball-to-hand, the shot was going well wide and the hand made it go onto the post, it helped rather than hindered.

I really dislike these sort of articles.

  3. Orsolini would be so much better of a player if he stayed on his feet more, instead of flopping down at every challenge and over-embelishing it…

    1. if he keeps winning games, i think he needs to be out of here asap. next win probably is enough to convince me

….something something….4231…something something…krunic is evil (let me know if im doing it right)

    2. Quality over quantity you idi*t 🤦‍♂️

Bologna had 7 shot off target and 3 shot on target vs Milan 1 shot off target and 5 shot on target. Milan plays more effective than Bologna and won.

Beside. This match was at Bologna home so obviously they played harder and more agressive to win.

      1. I think the only idi*t here is you.
Bologna had 17 shots against us, 5 of which were on target.
A better team would have destroyed us.

  4. Orsolini play was when we stopped pressing and bunkered because of how tired the team was. that is the exact moment they got the call to move to a 442 low block
