Palladino pays compliments to Milan and Colombo after 3-0 defeat

By Oliver Fisher -

Monza head coach Raffaele Palladino believes that Lorenzo Colombo can go on to become a top striker, while he also assessed his side’s defeat against AC Milan this afternoon.

The game was ultimately won in the first half through goals from Tijjani Reijnders and Jan-Carlo Simic. Noah Okafor came off the bench to fire in a third after a lovely team move but was forced off not long after through a muscle problem, but the Rossoneri were able to celebrate a clean sheet and a win.

The result means that Milan have moved five points behind Juventus who are in second place while waiting for Inter’s result later as they travel to Lazio, while for Monza their familiar tale of struggling against the sides above them continued.

Palladino spoke to DAZN just after full-time to try and assess what was a difficult afternoon for his side, but one in which there were still some positive moments. His comments were relayed by PianetaMilan.

On the matches against the big teams: “In the meantime, compliments must be given to Milan, they were almost perfect. Difficult to play when you go down after a few minutes. We played the game they wanted. We lacked malice.

“We lack points with the big teams, but it is a more difficult league than last year. We try against the big teams, no dramas. They make a 3 + 2 with Florenzi and Theo. Obviously we were surprised by the goal scored coldly, then it was all uphill.”

On goals conceded at the start of games: “Against the big teams we always let in goals at the start. It doesn’t have to happen. Obviously everything becomes more complex, we need to work.”

On how to improve: “By taking care of the details, we knew that Milan could enter centrally. We shouldn’t have left like this. We had to be more incisive.”

On the match against Fiorentina: “We will analyse everything. We made mistakes, but we also did well in attack. Maignan performed a miracle on Colpani. We are aware of the fact that we approach all matches with the right mentality.”

On Colombo: “In my opinion he can become a great striker. He needs to be more incisive, but he knows how to make the team play. We have to put him in the right conditions, he works a lot, even in training, I’m sure he’ll do well.”
