Paolo Maldini hints at being annoyed at the timing of son Daniel’s Milan debut

Paolo Maldini has insisted there are a lot of problems still to fix with the current AC Milan team following a frustrating draw with Hellas Verona.

Stefano Pioli was forced into a number of changes as five first-teamers were unavailable for Sunday afternoon’s game; namely Simon Kjaer, Andrea Conti, Ismael Bennacer, Rade Krunic and Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

Although Hakan Calhanoglu cancelled out Davide Faraoni’s early opener with a free-kick just before half time, the Rossoneri would ultimately be frustrated for the rest of the game, including the last 20 minutes when they had a man advantage following Sofyan Amrabat’s red card.

After the game, director Paolo Maldini spoke to il Corriere della Sera’s microphones, and his words were transcribed by MilanNews.it.

“We have lost one opportunity, But there will be others. The team is recovering, but we know we have not solved every problem,” he said.

Despite a frustrating game, the spectators saw 18-year-old Daniel Maldini make his Rossoneri debut as he came on in the third minute of five added at the end of the 90.

His father commented on the historic moment: “The debut was not scheduled. He should not have been called up, he hadn’t been training for two days, he wasn’t doing very well.

“He was added to the first team only at the last minute. Now with a cold mind, I recognise that it is a great emotion for me, my family and the fans who warmly welcomed his entrance.”
