Pedulla critical of Milan’s summer decisions so far: “It’s incomprehensible to me”

By Oliver Fisher -

Alfredo Pedulla is the latest to criticise AC Milan for choosing Paulo Fonseca as the head coach over someone like Antonio Conte.

Milan made the decision to bring in Fonseca to take over from Stefano Pioli despite the fact that some more glamorous names were available and might have generated more excitement from the fanbase.

In the end Antonio Conte ended up at Napoli, Thiago Motta and Juventus and Milan took a bit of a punt on a manager who had mixed success during his other spell in Italy with Roma.

However, there are also those in the line of thinking that he could be the right man at the right time for the project, given his track record with young players and his clear tactical identity.

Pedulla spoke on Sporitalia and he aired his views on Milan and the decisions that they have made so far in what is a crucial summer, with his comments relayed by PianetaMilan.

“Milan needed Conte like bread. He brings freshness and enthusiasm. Then the mercato is showing that he is asking for the bare minimum. He didn’t ask for a 180 million budget and 40 million signings. Something he would have done to Milan too,” he said.

“Of course they should have paid them 8 million plus bonuses in salary. Milan did worse: they didn’t get Conte. They wanted Lopetegui, who wasn’t bought because of the wave of fan reaction.

“They wanted a striker, knowing that that striker would have cost a fortune with the commissions [Joshua Zirkzee]. I don’t want to attack anyone, but it’s a summary of two months. It’s incomprehensible to me.”

  1. “Milan needed Conte like bread. He brings freshness and enthusiasm”.

Conte’s freshness and enthusiasm has a very short shelf life. Just take a look at his track record. 2 years at most at a club. You can’t build a project around a guy who might quit after the 1st year.
All these people in the media are the one that need Conte like bread because he will give them storyline with his obnoxious, petulant, whinny behavior on a daily basis.

    1. I’ll take that one year and one Scudetto. Specially over 3 to 5 years of loser Fonseca with nothing to show for it.

    1. ba Katy tuned because the worse is yet to come?

I believe Fonseca, Moncada, Furlani and Co will deliver it for Milan. They find themselves 20 points behind Inter last season and this season it may double.
They will behind Juve, Atalanta, Roma, Lazio, and Bologna etc.
Ibra won’t be able to save something without life.

  2. Bread molds.

    See Tottenham.

Hey @isaak this comment is being rejected as a duplicate but it was the first submission.

    Example of deux ex machina

  3. nah. milan is small club. conte is right choosing napoli than milan. milan no longer big club, they have small club mentality. when maldini gone, milan losing stature and become small club mentality. its pity but everyone need to realize it sooner or later, and dont expect any big signing.
