Pedulla offers update on Milan’s managerial choices: “Milan don’t want to be hostage”

By Ben Dixon -

With Stefano Pioli’s departure imminent, the current situation for AC Milan is somewhat nervy. A manager needs to be hired, and the clock is ticking.

Whilst everyone at Milanello is aware of the situation, nothing has been confirmed internally about Pioli’s position, even though he has been speaking to other clubs, and Milan have held talks with candidates to replace him.

That is the situation, currently. The Rossoneri are still holding talks, and with two games to go until Pioli’s expected departure, there is a need for his replacement to be identified and hired in the near future.

Milan’s shortlist is believed to have been slimmed in recent weeks, and this morning it seemed like the choice was between two; Paulo Fonseca and Sergio Conceicao. However, a report this afternoon suggested that Mark van Bommel remains in the equation.

Alfredo Pedulla spoke about the situation on his YouTube channel, and his words have been relayed by Radio Rossonera.

The situation after Lopetegui…

“After the decision not to proceed with Lopetegui, for me, Milan entered an absurd alley of non-decision-making, in a situation where the club split a bit. In the middle then came Jorge Mendes who sponsored what I think is an excellent coach like Conceicao. For now, it seems that Milan have decided not to go for such a powerful agent, who could influence.

“I instead think that the Portuguese, despite his contract with Porto, could be the right coach. Conceicao doesn’t decide for now and Milan don’t want to be hostage. Someone spoke of Gallardo, who for me is an excellent coach, but inadequate in this part of the world to express his ideas. So we went to tighten up. The famous Van Bommel is no more.”

Two names left…

“There were two names after the collapse of the Lopetegui negotiation. The first is Conceicao himself, with Mendes putting pressure to link the coach’s market to the market of his other assistants. AC Milan, while appreciating Conceicao, however, seem to have made other choices, waiting for the second name left: Paulo Fonseca.

“The Portuguese, at the end of last week, specified that he would not decide the end of the season. It is normal that between now and the next 6 or 7 days Milan should define the question, with Fonseca who could be considered more and more a candidate.”

  1. We don’t need Jorge Mendez clowns 🤡, our current clown is better than them.

No seriously, if these are the options then better to stay with Pioli. Fonseca couldn’t do better than 70 points and fifth position with Roma and Conceicao has been struggling in the last two seasons in Portugal and it seems like Porto fans can’t wait to see him out.

  2. Let’s he serious. It’s because fonseca is the cheapest option and won’t demand anything. I seriously can’t believe(although deep down I knew) that fonseca is going to be appointed. Might as well keep pioli.

I understand to give everyone a shot and he may surprise us but on paper it doesn’t look good when there’s so many other names to go for

    1. Keeping Piloi will be the cheapest, it will save 10 million which Milan will have to pay for him and his staff if they let them go.

      Keep Pioli.

  3. Why? This season isn’t over. Other than Liverpool who know that they have to hire a new coach who has announced a new hire? And almost everyone is under contract with another team, you can’t hire them until they are available.
Pioli lead Milan to the Scudetto and the CL semis, what exactly has Fonseca done?

  4. I believe a lot of big clubs are just waiting to hire Pioli. He’s the best for us now. Let the management provide him with a better we’ll established striker and DM and surely he’ll perform better. He doesn’t talk anyhow publicly which is also another advantage, xavi just got sacked cos of that

    1. I think unless we are getting Conceicao, RDZ or Conte we should stick with Pioli.

If we can get Zirkzee/Sesko, Boungirno and KThuram added to what we have then any of the above 3 or Pioli can challenge in Seria A and Europe

    2. Yes. We should keep Pioli. We can continue bullying small teams, like last match 5-1 against Cagliari. And continue qualifying for champions league for another season.

Pioli is the right coach for moneyball Milan. Don’t focus at trophy, what matter is qualifying for champion league, qualifying for champion league mean money

  6. I asked the question here again:
What if our management did all necessary to sign thuram and frattessi back then? Will inter win the scudetto?
I have my supported for Pioli again not because I think he’s the best but I think our management too should do better on their side before we cast all blames on Pioli.

  7. So my conclusion is:
Pioli stays and concludes his final year with another good mercato just as the management did this season and get one of Roberto Martinez or Julian Nahgelsman to take over….the 10 million compensation if Pioli is sacked should compensate for getting a high level class coach

  8. The guy who came third in France or the guy who came third in Portugal. A huge improvement on a guy who came second in Italy, I’m sure.

I know there’s more to managers than their latest finish, but this is still nonsense. Of all the candidates mentioned, there’s one at least as good already at the club.

  9. Our ownership and management are embarrassing for such a prestigious club…..no direction and apparently not a clue.

Should have hired Motta when we had the chance….

  10. It is true , look at wolves in EPL . Jorge Mendez forcing that club signing his over rated & over price player. Dont be hostage under super agent ,signing concecau and he will bring player under mendez agency
