Adrien Rabiot returned to San Siro with France last night, and Carlo Pellegatti believes AC Milan should regret not making it his home stadium.
Rabiot scored a brace for Les Bleus as they beat Italy 3-1 to not only get revenge for their defeat back home in the reverse fixture but also to take top spot in the UEFA Nations League group stages.
His saga was an interesting one to follow during the summer as he left Juventus on a free transfer and still hadn’t found a new club by the end of August, despite the quality he has shown he has.
We reported that Milan put forward multiple offers to Rabiot’s mother-agent but ultimately nothing could be agreed, and in the end he headed to Marseille, the big rivals of his former club PSG.
Pellegatti has spoken on his YouTube channel about the Frenchman, making it clear that he deems it a failure the Rossoneri were not able to land him.
“Gentlemen, it is not nice to live with regrets, it is not nice to live in the past and we must look to the future even if it is a mystery,” he said.
“I do not know what they think at Milan, but when I see Rabiot’s brace that could have been with us not for 50 million, not for 40 million, not for 30 million, not for 20 million, but for 6/7 [million salary oer year] gross, I go crazy. A champion like that in a midfield that has no alternatives.
“He is a champion, a starter for the French national team who enchanted me last night with his quality and distribution. Milan could have signed a world-class player, it is an investment. Today we’d have had Rabiot to insert together with Fofana with Reijnders.
“I am going crazy, we are now very mentally conditioned on the fact that we cannot aspire to Mbappé. But when I see a player that Milan can take for a human sum, but then we are 3 or 4 million behind on the budget… And we are not behind [with the budget] because with Rabiot you will arrive in the top eight of the Champions League.
“With Rabiot I would be as beautiful as the sun. Marseille has him, a good team with ambitions, but it is a fact that they are not Milan in terms of quality and ambitions, even if they have an extraordinary crowd. I go crazy. We would have been stronger and instead we pay 10/20/30 million for players who are of no use to me.”
bruv shut up his salary is not worth his quality
I agree 100%. This was an opportunity not to be missed. Our starting lineup (assuming no one is injured) would be one of the best in Europe, leaving us only to fix the CB pairing and a better RB.
Our starting lineup wouldnt be even in top 15
we also need a better midfield
Rabiot has been sh*t for Marseille and hasnt even been playing for the national team.
now one good game, and BOOOOOM.. What a missed chance.. Oh, Milan what have you done.. How did you not sign this super player.. On free..
ridiculous.
people dont even remeber that we did offer him a contract and he said no and ended up in france for less mone.. He’s playing for 3.5M net, Milan offered 5M net
Completely agree.
