AC Milan are keen on reinforcing the team in the summer and although a lot will depend on a top-four finish, the Rossoneri are expected to make three signings. This was stated by Carlo Pellegatti earlier today.
The attack has been the biggest issue for Milan this season, but reinforcements are also expected in other departments this summer. Speaking to MilanNews, the well-known journalist Carlo Pellegatti shared his thoughts on the matter.
What should we expect in the summer?
“Three players: a midfielder, a striker and, probably, a right-winger. Diaz could be the No.10, but the negotiations will start from scratch with Real and be wary of Arsenal. For the striker, Milan will need to make a significant effort.
“And then the midfielder, perhaps with an exchange, one could think of Milinkovic-Savic who would really raise the level of the team,” he stated.
The striker is a no-brainer, while a midfielder could be great for Milan as the likes of Tommaso Pobega and Aster Vranckx haven’t delivered fully just yet. In short, the departure of Franck Kessie has been felt this season.
In addition to the three positions mentioned by Pellegatti, Milan are also expected to replace Fode Ballo-Toure with a new deputy left-back. But that’s more of a straight swap rather than a reinforcement.
The links to SMS are baffling, yes I know he’s only got 1 year remaining on his contract.
As one of the top mfs in the league, Lotito will play hardball with any domestic rivals, plus SMS is likely to receive far higher salary options from clubs abroad.
Realistically the only way we could afford him is if we make say, the UCL final and get a boatload of TV prize money/ gate receipts.
Which everybody knows is by no means a guarantee! We can dream of this because we’re fans… but journalists should be reporting a bit more objectively.
True, but SMS has already proven that he’s not necessarily motivated by cash. He could have left a long time ago and he’s been playing for a club that barely ever reaches the CL. Honestly, in that regard he’s been a bit of an enigma. So based on this and the fact that he’s already 28, I say we have a fair chance to convince him. I think his price will be ~25m, which is probably around what Real will be asking for Brahim. So the real question is: do we want to continue with the more traditional trequartista type player, or add a box to box MF to the group of Krunic, Bennacer and Tonali and have them occupy all three midfield spots, as they’ve been doing for the last couple of games to good effect. SMS is also well capable of being the CM that is pushed up. He’s an intriguing option to be sure.
I guess milan will end up with another raw talented players like Thiaw-esque and sign free agent players like Origi-esque.
And SMS is probably not ready… according to Pioli
Well, this Pellegatti dude is really an insider, a very well informed journalist, I always pay attention to what he tells about calciomercato and the like.
Don’t be so doom & gloom, we’ll do a good market.
